From 1963 to 1966 I drove a '58 Porsche 1600N Speedster. The Navy interrupted for a bit, and in 1969 I returned in an Autodynamics FV. Willie Ascher was a real champion, very had to beat...I was only able to do that one time (Giant). Garth Hickoff, another formidable adversary, is still around. He called me after seeing my name in the Williamsport paper's article on Rose Valley in 2006. I remember ( and we get faster as we get older) getting under a minute at Hershey, and I think is was a hair under 59. But, in those days, with many vees and many first rate drivers in them I was a periennial 2nd, 3rd or 4th. Always in the season points standings but damn, first place was tough.
While I am at it, another memory: First Hillclimb: Fleetwood, 1963. As I recall I was 7th in a dead stock Speedster on Michlen tires. Yeah, 7th, but there were 40 cars in the class!! That was before EP was divided into three classes.
Time flies when you are having fun...See you all in the spring.
I owe Keith a call, and will relay the times to him.
