The Luge

Post by TKnorr »

Just my thoughts and beliefs...
The Luge... I Love it. Traveling down an icy, steep slope and reaching speeds of 90 mph with no roll bar/roll cage, no restrainsts and wearing a helmet that I am sure would not meet our standards. I prefer to decide what I will do and how I will do it. The world athletes decide to compete and are aware of the risks. Thank God, American Insurances companies do not decide the nature of the Olympics. Think about it, the American Insurance Companies is the most influential entity in the United States, controlling almost everything we do.
Sadly, a luge competitor from Georgia lost his life. It was his choice to compete and I am sure he was aware of the possible dangers.

Thor,

I always thought a 2 man bobsled looked more like a vee.
The course did get modified, using the women's start line and added a wall as the crash site. Still one of the fastest courses in the world.

Several years ago while skiing at White Face we took some time off from the slopes and toured some of the sites in Lake Placid.
We where at the bobsled course and found out that you could actually get a ride in one. I was somewhat disappointed at first when they wouldn't let me drive.
I'll keep it brief... If you have the opportunity ... DO IT :D
