Just wanted to say I watched your video and it was great. Thanks for posting it. One of the clearest I have seen.

Matt,
Thanks for the video. The technology is getting better every day. I'm trying to sell hillclimbing to some of my autocross friends and these videos are a great help. You know the "picture is worth a thousand words". Since I'm a Bimmer owner and fan, I'll have to check out your M3 at Jefferson. See ya.

Get longer gears (or more RPM)
Use all the road (remember something about ditch to ditch?)
Stop being a wuss through 5 and again at 6. Hell, the worst you can do is hit something or spin, right? (Oh wait, I did both...)
Seriously though, nice run, damn nice time, and like most of us, a bit of room to improve...

lol .. yeah, Matt Green, I need to work on using the whole road. I am not carrying as much speed through the turns as I could (being a wuss) so I end up coming off the corner closer to the inside instead of swinging out winder and using that other ditch.
When you said about being a wuss at 5, did you mean 5 or 5b?
Turn 5 (like a lot of turns) I am stuck between hanging onto the top of 2nd or going into 3rd. MY times seem best when I wait to get into 3rd leaving 5.
5b was much more intimidating for me this year with the extra 100 hp. I was getting into 4th faster and smoother last year through there.
Matt (///Mracer), The radar gun on run #2 on Sunday had me at 121 mph.
I have noticed with the radar that the closest you are to the right, the higher your speed will be since you are hitting the gun later. I was staying out really wide through there and I was recording very low speeds which I later realized was because the gun was hitting me sooner (farther down the hill).
On my fastest run (124 sec) I chose not to go into 5th before the finish (yes, I wussied). With the gearing in my car, to go into 5th would have meant that I was around 130 mph.
The "back straight" heading into "oh shit" I think I am hitting around 110 or so.
A lot of my time is coming from the power of my car. I am fully aware that I am being extremely conservative with my lines and power-on-turns. My priority is always to take the car home in one piece, then to have fun and lastly be competitive

nice, the gun showed me hitting 105mph, but I think I need more power .... 3000lbs trying to go up hill with maybe 225 rwhp is not ideal for me

Your placement on the road drastically affects the radar reading. It's not like a drag strip where they are timing you across the lane. They have the gun at an angle so the farther to the left you are the slower they are getting you (since you are farther down the hill). If you are to the right you will clock a higher speed.
Hyde, with me in him, weighs 2820 lbs. I dynoed at 440 rwhp, but I was not putting that much power down on the hill. I was most likely in the mid-to-upper 300s.
I would be much braver with less power
