:( Just another reason I will not be racing wheel-tow-wheel

Talk about anything in this section, just keep it clean. :-)

Hey Jeff, from what I remember one or two of your street wrecks were pretty close to this...

Seriously though, it's all in who your race with, or even drive on the street with. I think many times you're safer on the track than on the street anyway...

It hurts just to see some of the cars in that pile. There are some formerly pretty nice rides there. That's sad!

That is not even remotely true. Your memory stinks.

I had one accident that had 1 car and 1 truck involved besides me.
That does not even come close to a pile up like that.

Damn, I used the wrong smiley for that... I was hoping to make it clear that it was a completely joking comment.

Although it is sad to see a pile of cars like that. At least they were out on a track where examples of a wonderful by-gone era in American V-8 sedan based racing belong!! Carroll Shelby himself has said in numerous interviews that he hates to see race pedigree Cobras and Shelby Mustangs sitting in car collections instead of out on a racetrack. Those guys in those caliber of cars will fix them and get them back out on the track.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Those cars were meant to be raced and unfortunately, accidents are part of racing. I've got a great tape of some vintage racing at Lakewood where some guy trys to outbrake a Ford GT 40 with his own GT 40 and he takes both of the cars across the infield and into a wall. It's sad, but it's racing......and if I could afford to race one of those beauties, I can afford to repair it.

Can't wait to do some wheel-to-wheel club racing in my mustang. Maybe in the next 5 years or so.......

"BECAUSE YOU LET US!"

Post by Mel Horn »

Wow.
I am reminded of a story that Steve Wilkerson (Glen Region starter and Rose Valley too,...) told me about the Drivers' Meeting before one of the IMSA races at the Glen.

The Chief Steward asked the assembled drivers: "Why do you guys always jump the start?"
Someone at the back yelled:

"BECAUSE YOU LET US!"

Hey, anybody can crash in a group like that. It takes a special type of individual to do that all by themselves...
