Re: 2023 PHA Organizational Meeting

Post by gdh57 »

SCCA National proposed a major restructure to the Solo Street Prepared class structure in December 2022, and approved it at the Jan 2023 board meeting (see below). The PHA members approved the 2023 PHA Supplemental rules at the Jan 21 meeting, which means we accepted the 2023 Solo rules for the SM and SP classes. However, when the vote was taken, we were unaware of the major changes to the Street Prepared class, and so we are going to reconsider the Jan 21 approval of our supps at our March 11 meeting.

At the March 11 meeting, we will be discussing and voting on how we want to handle the Street Prepared class in 2023. If you are interested in this topic and would like a say, you should attend the meeting either in person or via zoom. Please see the Current Schedule page on our website for more information on the March 11 meeting location and on how to request zoom meeting credentials.

https://pahillclimb.org/schedule-results/

To summarize (bold indicates changes), SCCA National is changing the Street Prepared Classing structure as follows:

Super Street Prepared (SSP): High Performance sports cars, AWD turbo sedans, highest performance muscle cars and foreign grand touring cars
A Street Prepared (ASP): Removed
B Street Prepared (BSP): Removed
C Street Prepared (CSP): Lower and medium powered 2 seat and 2+2 sports cars, and FWD cars
D Street Prepared (DSP): Heavier RWD sports sedans/coupes and FWD cars, medium performance 2-seater and 2+2 sports cars
E Street Prepared (ESP): Muscle cars and foreign grand touring cars.
F Street Prepared (FSP): FWD cars with some lower power RWD and AWD cars

You can find specific details in the December Fastrack (starts on page 103):

These changes don't necessarily make sense for Street Prepared as a PHA Hillclimb class. Alternatives we will be discussing at the March 11 meeting include:

1. Freeze our SP classing as it was in 2022, and work towards creating our own (PHA ) classing structure for the category to be implemented in 2024.
2. Freeze our SP classing as it was in 2022, and follow whatever the SCCA classing for SP is in 2024 and future years.
3. Follow the current (new) SCCA Solo SP rules for 2023 and work towards creating our own classing structure for 2024.
4. Decide that we will follow SCCA's lead regarding all SOLO classing changes now, and going forward (while keeping PHA's Supplemental Classes)

5. Something else?

If you have another suggestion, please reply to me or reach out to Rich Rock or Mike Robinson.

Thanks,

Grace
