We had a cleanup at Polish Mountain that took a couple hours (and a fire truck to hose down the road) to complete. This was due to a large spill of engine coolant, so I want to remind everyone that for our events, the use of anything other than water (with the appropriate amount of water wetter) is strongly discouraged.

We simply can't have a repeat of this incident, especially at Duryea.

I'd suggest tech inspectors looking at and feeling the coolant.
If it's not water, that car will need to have it changed before being allowed to run.
It's almost 2 weeks til our next event. Everyone has time to swap out the antifreeze/coolant.

Just curious - what exactly was the coolant that spilled? From Rich's post, I assume it wasn't Water Wetter, which I use in the MGA. We have had antifreeze leaks in vintage racing but it wasn't that hard to clean up. Want to make sure I never buy the wrong thing.

Thanks Rich. We keep antifreeze in both cars for the winter but drain in the spring for racing. Probably a tiny bit stays in but not enough to cause a big problem.

Sue, that's exactly the way to do it. I should add that distilled water works best.

The most popular vintage racing organization in the northeast is VRG. On their tech sheet, there's a check off line that says "no antifreeze". Only exception to that rule is for events that run on weekends when the temperature is expected to drop below freezing.
