How ya'll doing? With my time in the military coming to an end, I have been looking forward to the giants despair climb a little more than usual. This year I would like to participate in it, just don't really know how to go about doing so. I looked into all the scca licensing and car regs. however, still being stationed away from home, I simply do not have much time to browse all the rules. Therefore, my question to all of you is what exactly do I need to do and go about receiving in order to race this year? Such as licensing and car safety measures. Also, I have an 85 C4 with some minor work done, nothing to expansive and also do not have a cage in it. What class would it be and would it need a cage? I apologize for not being very current with the rules, it's been a while since I had time to focus on something other than the military.

Thank you,
Kai

As far as licensing, you can get your novice license at most events, but it can be a hassle especially at your first event. I would suggest that you get your license and membership before hand. The license app is here: http://scca.cdn.racersites.com/prod/Doc ... novice.pdf
The medical form is here: http://scca.cdn.racersites.com/prod/assets/Physical.pdf
I believe that for a novice permit you only have to fill out the medical info and not get a full physical.
I can't find a membership app but I'm sure if you contact SCCA or the NEPA region of SCCA (in the Wilkes-Barre area) they can help you.

I could not find the C4 listed in the SOLO rules but you would be able to run in Super Street Mod (SSM). Most classes only require a roll bar (a cage is highly recommended).

If your going to be in the area stop by an event before Giant's an talk to a tech inspector. Giant's this year is July 12-13, Weatherly is June 14-15, Pagoda (in Reading) is June 28-29. Friday night before each event would be the best time to talk to tech because they all compete and are usually very busy Sat morning.

The best way to get started as a driver is to Join the SCCA and apply for a novice competition license, which you can find here:
http://pahillclimb.org/rules/driver-checklist/
You will need to class your car and read the 2014 Time Trial rules and Supplements we follow here:
http://pahillclimb.org/rules/
Our schedule is posted here:
http://pahillclimb.org/schedule-results/
Contact one of our novice instructors, John Pitman or Steve Lewis listed on our contacts page and
If you have specific questions please contact any of us and/or the respective PHA contacts which you can find here:

Good Luck

Hi Kai,

If you live in the WB area, give me a shout when you are back in town and I would be glad to help out. There are a couple of shops that can help you put a cage in it, or you can order a bolt-in cage, but it must meet the requirements. You will mainly need safety belts, a fire extinguisher, driver safety gear, and minor other car prep like battery secured for a car that can meet SSM class. If you have minor prep, you can run SSP class. Welcome and thanks for serving.
