I know I haven't been around for a while but I am surprised to find out some things on TV about our sport.
While being bed ridden by an injury at home, i was surprised to find some hillclimb trivia on cable channels. I was watching a segment on Velocity about a rare Tojeiro-Climax that ran the Hershey hillclimb this year. I went to the web site of "Chasing Classic Cars" to find more information and found some starteling news. One former show involved the auction of Bill Rutans Hillclimb "bathtub" Special. Did anyone know about this?
The host is Wayne Carini? Anyone know him? Anyway, the clip showed him talking to someone about setting and auction reserve. The car was obviuosly fully restored and painted silver without the signature canvas fareing on the rear. they mentioned setting a $100,000 low ball reserve due the engine being worth $150,000? WHAT? Bill always joked that he had a $50,000 engine in a $500 car. Was the car really worth that much? The hosts were hoping to sell at $200,000. Did Bill get a fair price for it?
There may be gold in them thar hills?

Re: Out of touch
When I talked to Bill about it...he wasn't too happy what the new owner did to the car...50+years of patina, gone! He sold it to the fellow in this article, with the understanding that the engine and car would not be split up.

Ron, Did Wayne run both the Tojeiro and the Bathtub at Hershey?

Re: Out of touch
Were you boycoting it Ron?
Rich Rock sent the link to the results. Wayne Carini did run the restored Bathtub along with the Tojeiro (spelling differences between TV listing and Entry form).
I spent an entire day watching a marathon of Chasing Classic Cars programs and never saw the one on the Bathtub. I can only hope its a future show. If anyone knows anything, please let me know.
