Want to start hill climbing

i want to start hill climbing this upcoming season. i have a 2004 subaru impreza sti with a good amount of engine work(ported heads, cams, pistons, rods, etc)planning on doing swaybars and other stuff. my question it what class would i fall under and would a scca approved bolt in cage be alright for that class. cause i would rather not cut apart this car to put in a cage(already have another one for that...just not for this kind of racing). any input would be helpful i cant seem to get heads or tails from the rulebook.

thanks Mike

Hey Mike.

Most likely, the car is in Street Mod. GREAT class to be in actually and my favorite. The engine work put you there. Basically, read the street prepared rules in the Solo rule book and then transition to Street Mod. They assume you know the SP rules so they don't repeat them. Street Mod is a wild class with drivetrain being all-but unlimited. You could literally show up with a 1000hp STI and run in that class provided some other guidelines are still being followed.

For cage rules, go here: http://scca.cdn.racersites.com/prod/ass ... els_v3.pdf and read the specs on Solo classed cars on page 38. It's pretty easy. A bolt in cage/bar is acceptable.

If you have additional questions, just let us know.

Thanks Steve for pointing that out. "You can show up with a 1000 HP" and run with a roll bar?

What, you don't think I pay attention?

Hey, no problem Dave! The Mach was just under 700hp this year. It may be over that next year. We'll see.

No thanks.

C'mon Dave. Come race in Street Mod. It's a fun class.

Been there, done that. Have one or two class Championships. Can't remember, too long ago.

I have come to like classes with strict rules that give a more level playing field. More emphisis on driver skills, although I do respect ones skills in wringing out as much performance as possible out of any car.
