I am the owner of a J2 Allard vin # 99j2123 that was originally owned
by a gentleman by the name of Del Lee. I believe he drove and won
a Giant Dispare hillclimb in 1952. Can anyone help me in finding out
any information on this car or driver during the early fifties? Did he enter
other hill climbs any records?
Thank you for any help your club, and members can provide.

Del Lee won Giants in 1951(1.07.5) and 1953(1.04.3). You might want to also check with Pete Hylton, the SCCA historian. I be you can find contact information thru the SCCA website, http://www.scca.com.

Delevan (Del) Lee would come in from Grosse Point Michigan to compete at Giants' Despair....I have a couple of pictures of the car on the hill...I can scan for you.
It would be awesome if you could bring the car to Giants' in 2006 to celebrate the 100th running of the event!!

I guess it would be more accurate to say the Centenial Celebration of Giants' Despair, since there were many many breaks in the action due to lack of interest, mine fires and floods...
Also, I find Mr. Lee's name spelled several ways...Deleven & Delavan??
Is the Allard still in original paint?? It appears to be white in the pictures I have...and ran #62.

Thank you all for your help on the information about my Allard.
I will continue my search. My car had no paint on it when found. I was
able to get the original paper work on the car and the color ordered
was blue, and that is the color we painted it.
Someone told me that Del had two Allards, and I am not sure which car
I own. I spoke to Don Wood of Detroit who imported the car I have. He told me that they only imported one Allard as a favor to his brother who Del was a friend of.
Does anyone have info as to the Allards Del ran in 1952 and '53? Was it the same as the 1951 car?
Thank you all for your wonderful help.
