Novice Safety Gear Loaner Program

Post by dspgti »

At the last PHA meeting, I assumed the responsibility to organize a list of all surplus driver gear that members were willing to loan to Novices. (when I say "I" assume, I meant I would delegate it to Kate)
The spread sheet is complete with the offerings from those that attended the meeting. Anyone else that is interested in listing their equipment, please send me a PM or email or call me for more details.

Kate has also made a request form that the interested person would fill out in advance. Hopefully we can post the spread sheet on the web site and they can choose the items they need. The form will also track who got what. You would be notified to bring those items with you at the requested event. We will work out any conflicts in scheduling we can, in advance.

We are looking for Helmets (SA2000 or better, list w/ or w/o visor) Driver suits (list size) 1 or 2 layer, nomex (socks, balaclava, undies if not too disgusting) gloves (size), maybe shoes, arm restraints, maybe belts.

Any and all input is appreciated.

I do also have a set of Sparco 5 point harnesses that someone could borrow if needed. They do expire in Sept or OCT tho. They are the quick release clips also so if someone at least has the eye bolts they could just clip them in. I will have these with me at events since they are on my passenger seat. And since you guys won't let me take a passenger to do my "real time tuning" i don't really need them. :D

Thanks Jer. They are actually good till the end of the 5th year from production.

That is good to know that you usually carry them to each event. I will note that in the list. That way if some idiot shows up without their belts(I did it twice) or expired or not in spec, they have a back up.

Well, I know I couldn't use them. I have wrap around shoulder belts and bolt in lap belt. The sub belt is the clip type.
RIP Joe, my friend.

Must go faster!!!!

This this a great idea, Dave. As someone who had suffered a big case of forgetfulness (i.e. disorganization) at least season's Trout Run event, I sorely needed some cast-offs in order to compete. Having jsut finished a tiring work week (I work midnights), I hustled up to Pocono and instructed all day in 85+ degree heat, then drove 2 hours for Rose Valley. Only to realize, as I pulled into the paddock that I had left me driver's suit at home!

I was so annoyed I told me wife I felt like just getting back on the road to come home. Knowing how tired I must have been, (I hallucinated that the car behind me at a light in Williamsport had a driver's seat & roll cage just like my Escort. Duh! I was looking at my own car which I was towing!), Mary Ann told me to just stay put.

"O.K., then I'll just sleep here tonight and forget about racing, and drive home in the morning."

Then I wandered over to John Pittman's digs and mentioned my dilemma.
Momentarily, John produced his old red "back up" suit, which fit me perfectly!

So, yeah, spare stuff for the organizationally challanged?

Good idea.
