What a great thread. Thank gosh I don't have any real work to do today.

Where did they all go!? - some of these make Max Balchowsky's creations look like works from Pininfarina or Bertone...

Another Special…or what was know then as a Modified…that we have talked about here before is the VW powered Kellison of Robert & Norma Oswald. Oz pretty much ruled the Mod 1 class through the 70's and early 80's. The car was then turned over to Jim and Tammy Oswald and it continued it's winning tradition…again, later it was run by Bob Pritchard. The car was last seen down South…but the power plant can be spotted in Larry Long's Bradley today.

And since we are sticking with the OZ theme…after the Kellison was gone…the Viper SR-1 was born. Home built at the Oswald compound... Jim & Tammy competed in this ride starting in the late 80's into the 90's and ran as late as 2005 with both Jim and Oz Jr. sharing the wheel. The car amassed, what appears to be, 4 FTD's and continues to hold most ASR records at all the hills except Giant's Despair. The car caught fire at Weatherly and was put to rest. Currently, the car resides with me and is SLOWLY getting back to running condition…one thing I'm sure of, I'll never be able to run it like an Oswald!!

Now…who would take a vintage Formula Vee and stuff a 2 liter engine in it? Well…our very own Morgan Wilson, 2007 Special 2 champion…of course. Morg's Mk5 Beach (#16) has morphed from the traditional Formula Vee, to Solo Vee, to it's current configuration as the Special 2 beast that it is now.

One of the smallest in size, but not in wins…is the Miller Special driven by Jim Miller! With over 30 class wins and 2 FTD's this machine packs a punch. It continues to hold the Pagoda Hill Record set in 2002.

Our next Special hailed from Pottstown. Jake Symanovich's Cooper-Chevy…this modified 3 beast snagged 8 FTD's in 1976 & 1977. Is Jake still around?

Let's go deep for this one….Candy Poole's PBX (Poole-Bentzinger-Experimental). Candy ran Giant's in 1954 & 1955…you can see a result for him on the "Latest Case" thread. The car was powered by a 748cc Crosley engine!!

check out the vintage timing & com. gear!

Throw a Saab engine into a Lotus 7...you'll get a Modified 1 car. This car driven by Dr. John MacConnell of Emmaus, ran in the M1 class from 1968 - 1970. In 1968 he won Rose Valley & Fall Hershey...but by far 1969 was his "big" year winning at Duryea, Giant's Despair, Fleetwood (pictured), Tuscarora, Jefferson and ended up the year end champ all the while competing against current drivers John & Jane Stinsmen!

Through a Saab engine into anything and you get a what? A whole new class! Because nobody else would put a Saab engine in anything other than to run by yourself. It certainly wasn't to go faster!

So why is it they haven't heard about this car outside of Poland? ( i'll refrain from the all the Polish jokes).
