This site sucks! I'm sorry, it's probably my lack of computer savy. I had 6 paragraphs typed out, hit submit, it said posted and then totaly disappeared.

So I'll start over.

I have looked under the hood of every competitor I have had with a VW. I know all the engine casting numbers, where they are located, head identification, part numbers etc that is approved for my class. In 5 seconds I can identify who might be cheating (in my class with a VW). And I have even tried to educate myself on other makes (Honda, etc). Do you think anyone else in your class knows what you know, and maybe more?

Now, IMHO, your crazy for thinking about running in Specials. You need: full cage, fuel cell, should have a full fire surpression system and although not reqiured, without slicks you are nowhere and... you must be lighting fast!

Street Mod? any Mazda motor that you want, but without a twin Turbo Rotary or an RX8 transplant, no contest.

The best advise I can give is, run the 1st gen with a 12A in CSP. Spend any available funds on Coilovers, camber plates, shocks, sway bars, wheels, tires, saftey equipment and driver school. Take two years, learn the hills and road coarses, improve your package and then build a proper racing motor. Horse power by itself does not win a race. There is a class record set in CSP by a 1st gen RX7. Make that your first goal.

i picked up the 1982 GS model last night. Real clean shape.

I plan on doing as stated. CSP. im actually rummaging through the GCR pdf from hell for 1) exactly was CSP stands for and 2) the rules!

As for the Street Mod class, this is actually the first i've heard about this. What rulebook PDF would i find it under because i still have the GSL-SE and i would like to do SOMETHING with it. If i can run ANY mazda motor, i would like to look into that.

Car preparation for the Street Prepared (CSP = C Street Prepared), Street Modified (SM, not to be confused with SM which also stands for Spec Miata, a club racing class), and Street Modified 2 (SM2) classes can be found in the Solo Rulebook, which is linked to on the following page:
http://scca.com/contentpage.aspx?content=61

The direct link to the Solo Rulebook is here:
http://scca.com/documents/Solo%20Rules/ ... ules_2.pdf

For these classes, you need to use the Solo Rule book for car prepration and the Time Trials Rule book for safety equipment.

All the other classes -- Production, IT, GT, etc -- are Club racing classes, and the car preparation rules are in the GCR, or here:
http://scca.com/contentpage.aspx?content=44

For these classes, use the GCR for car preparation, and time trials for safety.

The Special classes are Time Trials classes only. Or at least, the only place I've ever seen the rules for them defined are on the event flyers, unless they are also in the Time Trials rulebook this year (can't check, link to Time Trials rulebook from national site is not working).

The time trials rulebook may also refer you to the GCR for some of the safety equipment rules, but start there and not at the GCR for safety equipment because it overrides some of them.
