Not only a car hauler.......but a amphicarhauler, with the way it came out of the water! And you thought it was tough unloading at some of our hillclimbs.
I'd rather push my Triumph, than drive an MG !

That is just too cool! I wonder if the rear door panels act as fins under water? Another thing, does he have to submerge to unload?

If I had a Vee that's what I'd want to haul it. If you could find one...

If memory serves me ( this might have been in Sports Car or some such magazine recently) Pete Lovely ,the independent Lotus driver from the mid/late Sixties hauled his Lotus 49 on a VW Transporter!

He was also a VW dealer in the Northwest so that might have influenced things.

Now I will date myself....I bought one of these in 1966 from a farmer in Soda Springs, Idaho. It had about 5,000 miles on it and he had run it down his 5 mile dirt driveway without an air cleaner for about two years or so....I can't remember what year it was. It was lacking in compression as you can imagine. I was living in Soda Springs on my first job out of college and had no money, but the price of $100 was right. I rebuilt it for very little save the valve job I had a dealer do in Pocatello. As I remember the whole investment including the purchase was $250. I drove it to work for a few months and then sold it to a friend for $400. I was glad to get rid of it as it was incredibly cold to drive. The heater would raise the inside to about 20 degrees over ambient. It was just one of seven VWs I owned, including my first, a 1954 Beetle with a sunroof and semifores (sp?), bought in 1963 for $60.

Tim,

I believe that is a Berkley on the back of the transporter like the one that GRM is building in their magazine.

Peter Pires used to haul is Predator FVee to SCCA nationals on a back of a transporter for years.

Although they didn't haul cars on it, the Schuyler Racing team "Team Effort" ran Datsun 1600s or 2000s, and towed with a SERIOUSLY lengthened VW bus! This would have been in the mid '70s.
