New guy from Cleveland, Ohio

Post by AStaidle »

Hello all,

Im Alex. I live in the excessively flat area of cleveland ohio. I recently got interested in hillclimbing due to college bills keeping me from affording stage rallying for the time being. Currently im prepping an 1985 dodge Omni GLH turbo. Should be up for the 2008 season of rallycrossing and hillclimbs! I have yet to drive in a hillclimb event so im excited about it!

Welcome! There are many people who will be quite willing to help you with what you need to do to be ready for the 2008 season. Just post a question on the Forum and either you will get an answer to your question or all "HE double hockey sticks" will break loose due to ithe question being in the "grey area". Bottom line is: people will be willing to help you.

The other matter is whether or not you like the smell of 2-stroke castor oil and the sound a 1960 SAAB 93Fs the ring-a-ding-ding early in the morning! Oh, yea, there is also whether or not you like booze cake! The breakfast of champions for hillcimb drivers! Only kidding about the breakfast part. :)

POINT OF PARLIMENTARY PROCEDURE!

Maybe you had some bad apex seals, but a rotary and a 2-stroke are two different animals. Just don't let anyone tell you any SAAB stories.

Booze cake, however, IS the food of the gods. If you leave a hillclimb hungry you have no one to blame but yourself.

You MUST, however, be signed off on your Time Trials Novice Permit to participate in any Lingerie Verification Inspections (unless a licensed Tech Inspection/Scrutineer supervises).

And above all else...vvv

i keep the car at a marathon station in mentor where i work on weekends. So i have nicer access for working on things, unless its something that requires long term "up on jackstands" type work. THEN i usually have issues...

hmm...good thing i like eating. Seeing that i wont have to tote around X number of spares parts like a rally (although some things will be brought) i can probably shove a grill somewheres.

So these are usually two day events correct? IE camping?

Yes these are 2 day events and all have areas where you can camp. All are primitive camping with port-a-johns located in the area. Welcome to our little family. It's a very fun and friendly group. It's so fun we're starting our 4th generation in hillclimbing.

Cool I am close to Rt 6 and Auburn, you are just at the other end of Mentor RD. My parents live arnd he corner from you. Looks like you are really diggng into that Omni.

What I am learning is that you have to plan out the modifications by fiuring out what class you want to end up in- seemingly minor things put you in a completely different class and then a bunch f other upgrades are needed. We will have to get together , I'l dop by .

Here is my project- forunately no rust , but unfortunately, no engine !

OK Dan, these are for you

Image

The green one above s a 66 that wll be hillclimb car but mostly stock

The yellow one is a 69 , all stock

Image

Image

The blue one is a 66 Corsa shell that is a blank canvas- no drivetrain or interior- it may get seriously modded, I am thinking aluminum Buick 3.8 turbo ( wil bolt up to Corvair transaxle) -like this
Image

I also have a red 65 Monza that is just a stocker needs painted and the engine gone through- it is a powerglide car and is low on the priority list right now
