Why don't we add a workers' area to the forum. I know there are some who participate now, but perhaps more would if we had a dedicated area.

I lived in Winchester, VA for 20 years and might be able to recruit some help for Jefferson from the area down there. I'll make some phone calls and see if there's any interest.

Tom,

My girlfriend, Cin Foley, is interested in working turn around at Pagoda on Saturday only. Can she specify a location and date like that?

She is interested in trying this out, but does not want to commit to a full weekend and really, really doesn't want to work where she can see us at speed.

Turn around would be a good place for her :)

Jeff,
PHA does not run any events; they are run by the sanctioning region which in this case is BMR. They would have to answer your question, however, I would imagine they would welcome the help especially working turnaround.

Of course we do have a frequent visitor here that is a worker and never too shy to offer his opinion. What about it Mel? What are your thoughts and what have you heard other workers mention about likes and dislikes.
Who? Moi?
Actually the ones I talk to most are the hardcore who show up anyway!

One thing that the Trout Run Fire Co does is post some of their members on the hill.(Pine Grove did this also but there were just not enough to sustain things.)

Can we use Scouts? Local service clubs? Advertize in the local community, contact the sponsoring Region or local sponsor?
(Recruit from the Trailer Court at Giant's? Only kidding...)

Some folks may want to rotate at a couple locations over the weekend, I prefer to stay at one station; usually it's a "incident-frequent" one.
The money part does not really excite me, I'm there for Sue's cooking.

I just show up for the hell of it. Gets me out of the house!

What if Someone Who Shall Remain Nameless offers me a seat and/or my project(s) comes together?

Good ideas Mel. Regarding your idea using locals, in March, NEPA and the Weatherly Hillclimb Association are planning an introductory event for the citizens of Weatherly. The goal is to reqruit and subsequently provide a training session for those interested in volunteering to do F&C. I will provide an overview and Joe Chintalla will do the training. We are hopeful that it will increase our local pool of volunteers.

More of the same...

Post by Mel Horn »

Funny, every time I try to edit a post it gets this "Invalid Session" reply...here goes again:

I also had suggested that we give a discount off that event's entry fee for each driver that supplied a worker .

See if this sticks.

This ran in yesterday's Reading Eagle's DriveTime section:
http://www.readingeagle.com/re/drivetime/16258658.asp
It will be online for 1 week.

Hopefully Tom Knorr and/or John Champion will be getting some calls.

Tom, your phone number has been corrected in the Eagle's online edition and on my Web site.

So now it is only wrong in the 100,000 or so actual newspapers out there

Nice article. Good job Jeff.
That is huge publicity and a great way to raise awareness of our need for volunteers.

Pittsburgh Workers

Post by Speednation »

There is a decent amount of talk and interest at RacePA.com, where I have been promoting the new Cumberland Hill. I am confident there will be a significant number of workers coming to this event from the Steel Cities region. If we can get them hooked (in other words, smile, say "Hi" and "would you like a beer"), I know some of them will want to travel to the eastern hills as well. This new Hill will probably pay off in ways we haven't thought of yet.

I was in the WDCR site where they are advertising a Performance Driving Experience and they are also seeking workers. The following quote is from the site:

NEWS Flash: Folks who are interested in being volunteer workers (VW)
we have a nice incentive for you. If you work three events, you get an
free PDX event for yourself. Contact Lauren Robison our Chief of
Workers for more details at HRobi78577@aol.com or just sign up as a
vounteer on the registration site.

If someone worked three or more PHA events, would it be worth PHA's (and SCCA's) while to offer them an SCCA membership? If nothing else it is an incentive AND should help with any insurance issues. (NOTE: The PDX entry is $200.00 - a nice incentive). Perhaps this could be a discussion item at the next meeting.

worker flyer

Post by Mary Anne Fieux »

Just a little follow-up from the last PHA meeting. The flyer soliciting workers is done and basically ready to print. Included is the "Who, What, & Perks  of Working a Hillclimb", PHA schedule, responsibilities of a worker, and a form with "Name, Address, Phone, E-mail, Event(s) Preference, etc." for the PHA to utilize in a database.

Next will be distribution. Perhaps if the flyer is printed and brought to the April meeting folks can take some and place them in local stores that would be appropriate for such a flyer. I know I mentioned Brickles in Leesport at the meeting. The design of the flyer also allows for it to be mailed, if necessary.

I did bring a copy to the BMR meeting and no darts were thrown, so I guess it will serve its purpose.
