LSD vs. Open

Post by AStaidle »

From experience, which is a better setup? The limited slip or having just an open diff. I ask because i am at the point where i need to figure out which differential i want to run.

Diff 1

Vented Disc Brakes
Limited Slip
About 70lbs heavier than Diff 2

Diff 2

Larger Drums
Open Diff.

I know open diffs have better "turn in" seeing that LSD creates understeer.

For hillclimbing you just can't run an open rear. Either run the LSD or weld the spiders in the open rear.

With an open rear, when the car corners and the weight of the car shifts to the outside of the turn, the unladen inner drive wheel will just "spin" resulting in no drive force... with the LSD, since both wheels are "locked" together, the power will get to the outside wheel and the car will "drive" through the corner...simplistically put
