Thor's Driver's School

Post by Sue Salsburg »

Just got off the phone with Thor - he completed the double school at Roebling Rd & is happily clutching his signed off Novice Permit! Sounds like the perfect course for him - all fourth gear & fast. The Big News Flash - after almost 8 hours of track time, he says he's too sore/tired to lift a beer! Guess we'll all have to drink a congratulations toast for him. Sue

What a great weekend, ligt rain on fri. but other than that, nice and sunny. turn 1 at roebling road is just like the carosel, at Jeffersion. soo much seat time, I don't want to get back in a vee for a while :) in the race at the end of the school, I started infront of 3 SRF's and finnished in front of 1 SRF and a vee, had 2 speck wreckers battleing in front of me the whole race, a few more laps and I think I could have got by both of them.
Yes Hughie, I am looking for a vee, got one I'll fit in? just watch your mirrors for me at the vee birthday party, I have that track down now, 8 hours will do that, I'll even tell you where to shift for best lap times :twisted:

speck werckers are big and slow, not on the straight, but put out a big draft, pulling me to allmost 7k in high gear, but they slam on the binders so early, its easy to drive by them when they are not side by side, but yes 2nd gear for turn one, third untill turn 7 them back to high, I can help with your lines too when we get there, if your van makes it, Giz does not think it will, but do you have a vee I'll fit in for sale? want my own for the birthday party,
THOR

To all who know Thor;
I have been remiss in not filing the report of the entrant and crew chief. So, here it is: He studied the GCR and the supplementals; he started out at a reasonable speed and got used to traffic. Being blessed by being in a group of well prepared cars and competent drivers, Thor started to pick it up a bit....each session was a couple of seconds per lap faster. He gave room to be passed and passed well, very well....he stayed on the line. As a parent, I was a little uptight for a while, but witnessing his sane approach to it all, I relaxed and enjoyed the exhibition of driving skill (with one hand tied behind his back. :D ), In the final race he passed a couple of cars and was about to knock off a couple of SRFs when the 5 lapper was over. All in all, he attended and participated as it should be done (better than I did). An outstanding job! Now I have to worry about the little upstart knocking me off at the hills.....he got a lot of seat time at speed.

So, those of you interested in a double school, the one at Roebling Roads, near Savannah, is a wonderful venue and a very well run school. It is a long haul, but worth it. Thor and I will go back in April for the FV Birthday Bash...although we haven't yet figured out how to share the car.....
