Noise limits?

Post by BillStrong »

I am ordering my exhaust components for my V8 MR2. I need to know if there are going to be any issues with noise at any hill climb event for 2007. If so what are the constraints? I have a dual 3" rear exit system from a 4-valve 7000rpm V8. Running in S3.

As of right now the only place we race that has a sound limit is the Jefferson track at Summit Point. It should be noted though that some kind of limit has been talked about for Hillclimbs. There was quite a few officials talking about it last season. So I would not be suprised if there is a limit set for Hillclimbs in the near future.

Both the Saab & our MGA are well within the decibel limit for Summit. BMC engines have an annoying pitch, something to due with the siamese exhaust ports. Think about Dave Smith's Bug-eye or Larry Schaeffer. Both are legal for roadracing. Once you've heard an unmuffled early Mazda, nothing else comes close. At one time I think we had special supps just for Mazdas. Seriously, you should be able to tune a Super-Trapp to meet any reasonable limits.
