Huge article on Pennsylvania Hillclimbing ...

Post by JekylandHyde »

Sorry if this is a repost, but I have not seen it anywhere.

Was anyone aware of hte realyl big article on PA hillclimb racing in the Febuary '06 issue of "Hemmings Muscle Machines?"

A friend of a friend just passed a copy along to me.

There's a one-page article and 5 pages of photos!

The article is called:
"Keystone Climbers: One Driver, one car, one hill, one Pennsylvania tradition." It was written by Jim Donnelly and the photographs are from Harold Hoch. I know Harold through the Reading Eagle as we have used his photos in the past.

There are 10 photos spread out across the pages:
1. Pits at a race in Topton (guessing from the 60s)
2. A Ford 427 (looks like a Cobra) getting ready to launch in front of a big crowd in Fleetwood
3. 1970 Pagoda Hillclimb of a 60's Vette (white w/blue stripes) going past turn 7.
4. City Park in the pits in 1967. Photo of Kerry Hitt's blue-n-white Corvette.
5. Craig Kerchner loadings up a car to get towed.
6. Aug 31, 1969 a brand new Shelby GT 350 starting at the Fleetwood climb
7. No. 17, 1968, Kerry Hitt in his Corvette is attacking the Hershey climb.
8. 1969 Z28 Camaro sponsored by Jack Dankel Chevrolet at the Topton climb
9. Fred Brandt in his 1967 427 Corvette attacking Topton on Aug 10, 1969.
10. 1968 Z28 attacking Hershey.

Anyway ... just sharing. I'll glaldy donate this issue to anyone that collects this type of stuff .... whose our big collector of this stuff?
