Chris Burns Video request

Post by dspgti »

About a year or two ago the video of Chris Burns cartwheeling his F440 at turn six of Duryea resurfaced and was passed around. I think it may have been Nelson or Rick that had the copy and sent it to the PHA or BMR list. I lost my copy in a computer crash. Did anyone else save a copy? Nelson or Rick, do still have a copy? If anyone has it, can you send it to F1racer77 on this list. Better yet post a link for everyone. It is awsome if you never saw it. Definitly would make the top 10 "And they still walked away" list. Made from a VHS dubbing of original 8mm footage, it is only a couple of seconds long. If I remember correctly Chris had only a minor injury like a broken wrist or something like that.

I don't think I ever had a copy on my computer. If you get a copy, forward it to me.

If I remember right, he bit his tongue and the next day he was sore every place that he could be sore and then some. I don't remember any broken bones.

I think that the chassis from that car is the chassis that Bill Kotyk's car has.

Thank you Sue and Nelson. Now that you mention it Nelson, I remember you making the comments before about Chris's injuries being so minor. I couldn't remember the details but I knew you new something about it. That's why I have a tee shirt that reads, "been there, done that, can't remember".

That is true Mel. I was on the radio at turn 8 when it happend. I still remember Will saying those exact same words. If I remember correctly Chris was borrowing the car for the weekend. And when he returned it the guy was not home so the ball of a car had to sit there as a surprise for when the owner got home.
On another note Bill said that when they got it the frame was not bent at all. Pretty amazing when you consider all the stories of the day about 440's falling apart just from normal racing use, let alone a wreck like that.

Not really borrowed. He was "testing" it for the owner. It was built from the ground up and the owner wanted a test drive by an experienced 440 driver.

My understanding is that when they put it in the shop to repair it they measured the frame and it was right where it should have been. The owner was not that upset.
