Just heard of the passing of a former competitor, Robert (Bob) D’Amore. He was a great competitor and a very interesting person. Had the pleasure of spending time with him at his home several times. Will miss his company when in the northeast Massachusetts area.
Many may remember him driving the F5000 McKee aluminum tubbed formula car with the sprint car wing, then dual carbon fiber wings before he flipped it and retired.

I personally have a lot of great memories of Bob. We both ran as "57", and I had the reserved number, so he ran as 1571 when we were both at the same event. But his ones were hard to see (as they were a thin line of electrical tape before and after the 57), so we were often mistaken for each other. I had to reluctantly give more than a few fast times back to him. One year the person using the radar gun for speeds at the Duryea finish line recorded "57" at well over 120MPH. Since my car doesn't go much faster than 90MPH on a good day, he and I were chuckling over the posting. He did offer to let it stand so I had bragging rights, but quite frankly, that speed in my car would be terrifying
