tires for scirocco

Post by mrgriffin »

so i got a new street car 16v scirocco. it has at 2" H&R static drop springs. i need to buy tires. anyone know factory size 195/65/14 or 195/55/14 will fit without scraping the fenders or should i go to 185 series? also any good tire sales or anyone trying to get rid of used tires in that size? i'm guessing grace would probably be the expert on this...

I've got the H&R Sport springs on my street Scirocco, which lowers the front by 1.3" and the rear by 1.25". I can run the stock tire size no problem, but I thought stock size was 185/60/14. I can run 205 50 15's with stock wheel offset, but need a 5 mm spacer in the rear or they rub on the struts. The tire size converter on scirocco.org is a great resource to tell you what fits.

I could not run 205/45/16 on my 16x7 K1 Koseis, they rubbed in the front every time I went over a bump and made nasty crunching sounds. Traded them for 15X(I think)6.5 K1's and had no problems ever since.

I've got a bunch of mounted tires on 4x100 wheels in a couple of different sizes if you feel like taking a road trip to South Jersey to try them on to see what fits.

The hot tire size back in the day was 205-55-14 but, I usually hit the inner fender well on the Rocco in tight corners. Never had that problem with the Golf GT.

I'm not ready to give up any of my 4x100 wheels yet, but I did get a set of 15x7 K1 Kosei's from tirerack in 2011 for about $115 ea if you're looking for a relatively inexpensive lightweight wheel. I stuffed Goodyear 15x9.5 R250 slicks on them. I had Paul cut away a lot of the plastic stuff on the inner fenders, and they still rubbed, and then needed more cut.

But this is on the race car, I have far less ground clearance with it and am lowered more than 2".

I think you could use these with 205 50 15's, no problem, but the offset is still a bit off and you will end up needing spacers. I have all of the dimensions somewhere, if you are interested in going this route, let me know and I'll dig it out for you.
