Car class question

Post by brandonl »

Hey guys and gals. I'm new here, been to Duryea/Pagoda the past couple of events haven't driven one yet. Now to the question... Is there a class for power adder cars? For example a forced induction mustang. I mean a class it can be competitive in btw, not an unlimited or catch-all class.

Thanks,
Brandon

Hi,

Your example a Mustang with a supercharger would fit into Street Mod as long as the rest of the car was class legal.

Thanks for the quick reply Tim. Where can I find the current rules for SM? I have a Solo National rule book from 2003, is that still ok?

Thanks again,
Brandon

SCCA General Competion Rules (GCR): http://www.scca.com/_Filelibrary/File/2 ... nRules.pdf

Solo2 rules: http://www.scca.com/_filelibrary/File/2005SoloRules.pdf

Time Trial Rules (TTR): http://www.scca.com/_Filelibrary/File/05-SCCA-TTR.pdf

Follow GCR rules and TTR rules specific class rules are in Solo2 rules. Read TTR, GCR, and Solo2 for references to your class.

I hope you have Broadband  Any questions post'em.

Tim,

Looks like a forced induction 5L mustang would be SM2. Page 166 of the Solo rules say a FI car is only allowed 4L displacement. Am I reading this correctly?

Thanks,
Brandon

Yes you are reading it correctly. You will also need the proper safety gear as specified by the GCR and TT rules (fire suit, SCCA legal roll bar or cage, extinguisher, harness, arm restraints or window netting...).

HI,

It would be Street Mod, Street Mod 2 is for 2 seater cars like MR2, and vette, ect ect.

It only needs to have the manufactor of the cars engine. You could have a 460ci stuffed in a Stang (not reccommended, nose heavy) as long as it's Ford engine in Ford car it can be any displacement. you should see that there along with induction, igntion ect is open. That means any intake, spark or fuel system. Turbo, and blower setups are in this class also. NO NITROUS!!

The example you gave in first post is legal SM.

Tim,
He is SM2. He is over the displacement limit for forced induction and therefore gets bumped to SM2 from SM. Underweight cars (which definitely won't be an issue with a Mustang ;) ) also get bumped into SM2. It's not just for 2-seaters.

Tim,

I agree with Tony. A mustang is SM, a mustang with more than 4L and FI is SM2 according to those rules.

And yes Tony, the car will be fully prepped. Beyond the rules probably. I have a rally background, so Im an over-cager ;)

Thanks fellas,
Brandon

PS> The current plan is turbo charging a 5L fox
