What I did for fun at the Weatherly Start Line

Post by PitCrewLinda »

I sat under the food tent watching Joe and Dee working together and observing others who came and went in and out of the scene.

I did this drawing of the start line where the timing and announcing take place. Joe and Dee Wilkie have been married a long time and have been doing this same thing for many, many years together. She sees the numbers on the car then locates names of the car and drivers, points them out to her husband on the sheet of paper and he in turn tells the crowd who the drivers are. He talks about their car and sponsors and other profile information about the driver.

I wanted to put these two forever into my painting journal and into history on the internet. They don't have the internet; but maybe someday a relative of theirs will see their names and know just what an important part Joe and Dee were to the spectators, the Weatherly Hillclimb Association and to the Pennsylvania Hillclimb Association.

Thanks Joe and Dee and of course, Nelson Kase for keeping the "records" straight in timing and posting the results.

Others in this painting are Nelson Kase, John Tumolo, Patti Murphy and Joe Seiburt. It you'd like to see a larger version of it, go to this link where you will find it.
