Solo I safety items needed?

Post by Bigfork »

I've aquired an early model Miata and it will be my hill climb car. Eventually Spec Miata but for the next couple years at least it will be prepped for CSP. What additional safety stuff will I need?

My short list:

Roll bar, 2" above helmet. Manufacturer (Hard Dog) says it is Solo I legal with harness bar. Will I need to drill inspection holes? Roll bar padding required?

Fire bottle w/ metal bracket

Arm restraints

New harness

I already have the suit/helmet/etc. from running Roy's ITB car.

Thanks,

Tony,

Yes, the bar will need inspection holes in the main hoop and aft brace, 6 inches from a weld or bend; and rollbar padding in the driver area. Otherwise, I think you have everything else covered.

Thanks for the clarifications Rich. I'll make sure I do that.

I seen some tech inspectors that appreciate when the owner shows up with a drill ready to put a hole where the inspector wants it. But, I doubt JW would be that picky and he might even be more annoyed that he has to wait while you drill the hole. You can alwaysgive him a call and see if he has a preference since he is the one likely to be doing the inspection.
