Formula car roll hoops

Post by jzabriski21 »

I rember doing my first road race tech in my f440.
They took a broom handle with me in the car and put it from hoop to hoop.
Is this a practice excersized in PHA?

with you in the car, helmet on. the broomhandle, or straight line is to be two or three inches above top of your helmet. we only check if you look to be above it. cheif steward says something to tech. this rule is for your saftey. when I bought my vee, I was above the roll bar. had a new one put in before I took it to any hills. as a tech insp. I know better.
bottom line is if your questionable you will be checked.

Junior,

It was one of the things I was reminded to look at this year as well.

I hate to stir the pot, but maybe it is time to check all formula cars, but that takes a long time.

Thor - From a photo I just reviewed, the car in question (that will remain nameless) looks fine. jjp

This is one of those items that is always in the back of the officials minds, certainly no one is ignored because they have been around awhile. If you have ever noticed one of the Stewards walking by your car looking sideways or crouching down as you pulled up to the line it's probably because something like this has caught our eye and we are double checking that whatever the issue is still meets the rules. Of course the early events in the season or new drivers/cars or new co-drivers get a little extra scrutiny.

All that said, it's a good point for everyone to consider checking yourself. These type of issues are usually more easily fixed at home, rather than getting turned around while on the line for your first run.
