2 year HARNESS Rule?

Post by Mr2 »

My harness has 7/02 Date of Manufacture, do I need to "update" it or is it ok? Where do we stand ....2 or 5 years? I was ready to get a new one & I was advised of this:

Thanks guys,

Fabio and Paul,

The rule is belts in good condition up to five years.
FIA belts have an expire date on them, meaning that after that date they are no good.
SFI belts, like Fabio's, has birthday, which in his case are 7/02. Add five yrs. to it which is 7/07, SCCA allows belts to be carried to the 31st of December, which then Fabio's belts are good till 12/07.

I would like to point out, that is only true in the Trials program, the Road Racing program is still 5yrs. for FIA and 2yrs. for SFI.

In the same vein, how about helmets?

Post by Mel Horn »

The info I got at the meeting indicated at the meeting that Snell 95 helmets are OK. An article in GRASSROOTS MOTORSPORTS indicates otherwise. Which is it?

The Time Trials rules for level 3 & 4 events default to section 17.23 of the current GCR. That sections states that SA95 or later helmets are required. It also reminds everyone that as of 01/01/07 SA2000 or higher will be the requirement. So, everyone with a SA95 has two more years before they have to upgrade.
