FIA 5 point harness

Post by Speednation »

I know that an FIA harness is legal for road racing for 5 years. A regular harness is only good for 2 years road racing, but we honor it for 5 years. Is an FIA harness also only good for 5 years in hillclimbing? Thanks

I believe they're good until the expiration date on the harness.

By "we", you mean " Hillclimbs, Time Trials". The "Matt's" have included the wording in the Time Trial regs that say SFI and FIA belts are good for 5 years.

Club Racing? different story. SFI, 2 years. FIA 5 Years or expiration date!

So, I will ask the question? Since when doe's the the FIA (some stuffy shirt, anal, up tight, European, Facist, Communist, Socialistic) out do all the American legal (I'll sue your ass) system, when it comes to making rules system.

Disclaimer: I don't hate the Europeans any more than they hate us. Except the French! (they make bad cars)

SFI harnesses are good for 5 years in TIME TRIALS, but only 2 years in Club Racing-road racing.

What's the difference between the 2 series regarding that decision? Wouldn't you want to err on the Club Racing series safety rules? Kind of like the cage/no cage thought in a mid to high hp street car.

Originially, Club racing was 5 years also. The differences were created as a compromize in the effort to keep drivers in the program by not making them change belts every 2 years for possibly only 1 or 2 events per year.

Don't stop there! Think about 6 or 7 point! FIA has higher standards. You can't go wrong if you get FIA for 5 years instead of SFI for 2. You can see the quality difference between SFI and FIA. Or maybe it is just the impression I get. :fish

6pt may mean I have to change my mounting points. But I will certainly take a look at them. Thanks, Dave.

I use M & R Belts. They reweb and re-certify their belts for $30.00. ( I am pretty sure that is what I paid last time). Check out www.mrproducts.com for info.
