IMSA AAGT

Some of you may remember back in the 70s IMSA created a class called All American GT so that Porsche 935s would not win every race. Well a friend of mine had been running a V-12 Jag XKE for a few years and he decided to build something a little faster. It was a tube frame Dodge Challenger with a aluminum Hemi for power. He never had much crew and did everything himself from building the car, driving the transporter, and racing the car. By the time he built this he was pretty much broke and burned out so it never got developed before he quit. I lost track of him for about 20 years and then ran into him a few years ago at an autocross. I was vintage racing at the time and told him how much fun that was and about the great cars and legendary drivers you could meet. Well about a year ago he said he still had the old Hemi Dodge and was going to restore it for vintage racing. Last month he called and wanted to find a place to test it. I have access to a local rural airport so he has been down twice now to test. It is wicked fast with about 850 HP in a 2300lb. car. The engine is a 540" Keith Black Hemi. We found a few minor items to take care of in the first two test sessions and it looks like it will be going to the HSR vintage races at VIR on July 8-10 for it's first event. You can see some photos I took on the forum at http://www.autocross.us under "other racing". I'm going to try to get him to a hillclimb one of these days. You can read more about his racing at http://www.glennbunch.com
