2016 TT Licensing

Post by Dave Cutchins »

It seems the medical requirement for a full time trial license has been changed.
As it is written, you fill out the medical history form and sign it yourself. You are not required to have a physical performed by a medical doctor.

Was this intentional?

Hi Dave,

Yes. Since the PHA has no control over the Time Trial licensing requirements, we will be removing the medical requirements from our Supplementary Regulations and referring to the licensing form. This was a discussion item at the February 13th meeting.

Cheers

Dave,

I understand the PHA has no control. I just find it strange the SCCA would allow a driver to determine his/her fitness to compete without independent medical backup.
If the wording used by the TTAC was intentional, the medical fitness of a driver competing in a potentially dangerous and high stress activity is now based on the honor system.

Does anyone know the reasoning behind this change?

Nothing changes.

You need to have a license from SCCA to drive in hill climbs. The medical check ups will still be needed.

Things are just as both Daves wrote, and the licensing procedure, with respect to the medical, has changed.

I'm told the decision was made with the approval of Risk Management, and that SCCA is trying to remove as many "barriers to entry" as possible.

Since I hold a road facing competition license and a physical examination by a physician is a requirement, the change in the Time Trial License Application wording does not effect me.

Still, curiosity got the better of me concerning the medical requirement for a full TT license.

Prior to this change you could apply for a novice TT license with only the medical history portion of the medical form filled out. To get a full TT license or renew a full TT license the physical exam by a medical doctor was necessary. I just wanted to know the reasoning for the change in the wording.

A call to the SCCA National office confirmed the change. The requirement for both a novice TT license and a full TT license is the same. A physical examination by a licensed physician is not a requirement to apply for a full time trial license.

The medical history portion is required. Answers on the medical history form could trigger a review by SCCA and then the physical examination portion would possibly be required before a full TT license could be issued.
If an applicant would be less than truthful on the medical history form, it is possible that someone with a serious medical problem (who would not have qualified under the old wording) could be issued a full TT license.

I still do not understand the reasoning. Anyone else?

I apologize for posting wrong information.

I'll stick with posting videos only. I do know something about that.

Then how come our renewal said David needed an exam this year? We're on a 2 year schedule, but opposite years. I don't have medical coverage from work anymore, so we actually had to pay for the doc to fill out the form. So now I'm confused AND out $$$. Sue

Sue, This new rule started In Jan, did he put the paper work in before that? If so it was processed under the old rule. Maybe try again.

Bill received the first week of February. Too late to bitch, already had to pay for it. Not used to no health insurance after 34 years in county government.
