Duryea Paving

Post by Rich Rock »

Repairs to Skyline Drive in the area of the Duryea Finish Line are scheduled to begin on Monday May 20. Approximately 1/4 mile of road, beginning at the township/city line and extending past the finish line to the far end of the tower parking lot will be milled and paved. The contractor has it scheduled as a two-day job. We'll see how it goes.

EJB Paving was awarded the contract based (largely but not entirely) on their estimate of $36,000. PHA is contributing $2,500 to this project. Pagoda-Skyline is contributing $10,000 and the rest is up to BMR, which continues to look for more contributors. A great opportunity for an individual or business!

As of this morning, only "paint marks" as to where they'll pave. Apparently from before Finish Line (end of vista/beginning of Firetower wall) onward... I turned around at the Tower. Nice cruise at 6:15 AM. I'd recommend this early jaunt to everyone. Oh, and no deer today.

The paving at the finish line is done. They actually did more than originally planned.
The seam between the old and new surfaces is very smooth with very little disturbance at speed. They did a very good job.

Rick,

How do you know the transition causes very little disturbance "at speed"? :D

Reading Eagle Newspaper Article:

Retired State Trooper Richard Kase was caught doing 100 mph on Duryea Drive this week. Film at 11. According to the police officer Mr Kase said he was checking the newly paved road surface for the upcoming Duryea Hill Climb later this year. After a lengthy conversation Mr. Kase was released with just a warning. Mr Kase's brother Nelson, who is the head of timing for the event, was contacted to verify his story but had no comment. However Nelson did say his brother does have a heavy foot, and at least two times every year he tends to drive very fast up Duryea Drive.
