February Meeting will be held

Post by TKnorr »

Tomorrow, our February meeting will be held beginning at 1 P.M. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service, however, for most it will be a slussy mess.

Safety first. We will be there if our back country roads are not icey and therefore dicey. Main roads usually not a problem.

Gumball! 8)

Unfortunately we will not be coming....driveway a sheet of ice and "stuff" still falling from the sky. We were really looking forward to seeing everyone and getting the heck out of "Dodge", thus relieving some cabin fever. This weather sucks. Funny thing is, by time the meeting is over, the temps should be higher and the ride home would have been OK. As they say, it is the "getting there". *sigh*

Perhaps some of Tom Knorr's "slussing" in a cocktail form will relieve some of the cabin fever stress.

You missed one hell of a meeting!

The 1st thing unanimously approved by all in attendance was the requirement of an SCCA and PHA logo being tatooed on all drivers' left hand. Your car number will be your serial number and will also be converted to a barcode. This barcode will be scanned at registration and at the startline. Tatooing will need to be done prior to the season starting. If you show up at Jefferson and it isn't done, just head on home.

Timing will be done PRIOR to the event. This is to decrease the amount of work that Nelson does. He gets 2 weeks to do timing at his convenience. If you wind up in the wrong class, you'll have to petition National for the change. Timing sheets will be mailed to and held by Matt Rowe. If Matt is unable to attend the event, results will be posted at the next event he is able to present them. If the results are lost, that race is considerd void and no points will be awarded. Complaints will be considered and are encouraged.

They banned all SAABS and rotary motor cars. The Whitman's have purchased a mustang(finally!) and have joined in with the bans. Any cars exceeding 45.625db will be disqualified. NO exceptions.

Everyone is required to wear a headset from registration on Friday til AFTER teardown on Sunday. It is suggested that participants read: http://www.osha.gov/pls/oshaweb/owadisp ... &p_id=9735
A test will be given at 6:15am, April 1st. Location: Finish line of the Topton hillclimb. Please bring a #3 pencil with the eraser removed. The fee is $375.21.

All cars will now be inspected Thursday night. If you don't like it, don't come. Protests will be resolved thru duels. Black powder guns will be provided. The distance for the duel is 1.5miles. In the event that both shooters miss, the protest is invalid. If the protester is wounded or killed, the person being protested gains possession of all effects the dead protester has in his pits. This will also include credit cards and cash. In the event of a mis-fire, the official will bring both duelees together and shoot both. The official will gain possession of both parties effects. It probably isn't a very good idea to protest unless you are a really good shot.

At 9PM on Friday nights, starting with Jefferson, all drivers are to start drinking until passed out. If you are not passed out by midnight, you will be escorted from the course and your car/gear confiscated. Faking a 'pass out' will be considered fraud and you will be arrested under trespassing laws.

NO open wheeled cars will be allowed. All owners of open wheeled cars must now install fenders. A spec is being drawn up by a rather large aircraft manufacturer and will be required to be installed by Pagoda. A 1 run waiver will be given only at Pagoda.

Classing will be changed. There will be 4 classes. Class A - Female/FWD Class B - Female RWD Class C - Male FWD Class D - Male RWD. AWD is now eliminated from competition. There was some discussion of leaving females out of competition in leu of keeping the AWD cars but that didn't go over very well. We tried really hard but SOME females in attendance were quite upset.

The purchase of a AAA membership is highly recommended. No wreckers will be available at any tracks thru the 2011 season.

Lastly, my favorite!!!! PASSING IS ALLOWED AT ALL TRACKS EXCEPT JEFFERSON!!!!!! Cars will be started in 3 second intervals. When your group is called, the 1st car won't start until all cars are in line. You MAY need to actually start where you pit. So the start line will kind of be inconsistent.
Bumping of slower cars is not recommended. However, no penalties are given if the faster car pushes the slower car thru a turn. Spinning the car in front of you may result in a restart of the slower car.

Sorry for the long post. I was really bored. For more clarification on rules and changes, please call the information hotline @ 215-555-1212 or 800-555-1212.

The above comments are completely false. I MAY have had something to drink prior to typing this.
RIP Joe, my friend.

Thanks for the update Steve. I think I'm OK with most of the new regs. 1) I already have the Jaguar logo tatooed on my right leg & will happily add another to my hand. For the 100th Giant's I had my nails painted British Racing Green with #56 on each nail. Perhaps we should add this to the Ladies classes? 2) Pre-timing is OK with me, that's how they set the grids in VSCCA. It eliminated qualifying & gave us more time to drink champagne & nibble caviar. 3) No problem with the protest procedure: I'm a really good shot & it's a great excuse to buy another gun. My ex-husband got my black power Hawken, damn. But he now drives a mini-van, so I won that deal. 4) We might have to work on the pass-out Friday rule. We need a handicap system, based on weight, age & cost of the alcohol. Would also need to factor in Mare's booze cake. Adrienne is so tiny, it would take very little - while I will be in a class of my own! I hereby volunteer to be the bartender & custom mix the drinks. I do, however, reserve the right to lech after any cute novices who call my banana slushies "Girl Drinks". 5) No problem with passing at Duryea - plenty of straights & Gracie is way too wide for anyone except a Vee to pass in the corners. I also like starting from your pit space, will save gas & keep Gracie cool. Let's get Gerstein out of retirement & he can line us up numerically & in class order! I so miss being screamed at & abused, while the newbies haven't had the pleasure. Can't wait for season to start! Sue BTW, it's 9:30 AM & I'm sober.

I second the drink till you pass out, but should say first one out is where we get to draw, Linda young gets to judge, and winner gets 2 seconds off their time

so ok some great progress in the sport has finally been made and we missed it all! being "stuck here on ice" (sounds like some kind of disney on ice production...) was a hoot! as hilclimbers we go up hill right? well most of the time..right? our driveway has a tiny incline so evry day i hillclimb to work. yesterday there was no "going up hill on ice" (sounds like another disney on ice production)! actually it did not go over 30 degrees here. now a ban on mazdas and saabs? now is that strictly their respective power plant or can i finally install my 450HP 283 from my old drag racing 55 chevy in my saab? or could i install twin saab engines in my 55 chevy or must i prepare my 55 chevy to run the hills now? i've got a manual shift B&M auto trans sitting around and the chevy already has a line lock in it which i could retro fit into the saab so i could load the drive line at the start for a very positive launch. i guess i colud narrow the 12 bolt 69 camaro rear i have sitting around to fit the saab too. hmmmm i did autocross the 55 chevy back in the late 70's at topton high school in the BMR "conehead" autocross series in A/M (i have pictures to prove that!). it was the "back up car" when my bugeye was broken back then. so whatcha think? a night of serious drinking prior to getting into a top heavy overpowered vintage classed (sorry MALE CLASSED RWD)ex drag racing and autocross car (it really has some history!) could prove to scare the living daylights out of corner workers let alone drive through the trees unlike these new cars that get stuck on trees? ahhh finally the sport is seeing the light and progress IS heading in a constructive positive direction. and all this progress with only one set of nomex underwear! man i love this country! only in america can so many wonderfull positive changes be made in the name of progress in a short period of time!
i'm curious though? what happened to the ban on nomex proposal? i was under the impression driver's gear was going to be t-shirts , shorts and sandals for 2011 season. i have my attire pre-bought! how come youse guys never called i could have given my vote via phone on that one? bet it missed being passed by one vote too.
also the driver optional head protective gear proposal? i had a really nice base ball cap with lots of pins all over it all ready to wear on the start line. please tell me my phone was busy when you called for my vote to pass that one too?
well i guess i need to get my 55 chevy out and begin welding. i did not have much to do any way......

chuck
55 chevy sedan #251?????
and i was considering preparing the '58 bugeye i have stashed away....(no! not my white '59!)

As it turned out, we didn't have to vacate the room at 3pm. A few of us hung around until at least 4:30. The waitress said the function that was originally scheduled for 4pm was rescheduled for another day. Too bad noone thought to ask while we were there. Or maybe it's a good thing?

We had about 30 people there. Some of the important points:

Purchase of additional equipment and spares for the wireless timing system was approved.

Engine size for SPO and SPU will be over or under 3,000cc. A 1.5 multiplier will be used to compute rotary engine size, and a 1.5 multiplier will be used on cars with forced induction.

A new Inex class has been approved. The original INEX class remains unchanged. The new class is for cars on non-INEX-spec tires. Some engine mods are allowed in this class, which will be called, uh, I forget. INEX-2?

There was some discussion about registration and valid credential issues. All drivers are strongly encouraged to see to it that their "papers are in order" before showing up at an event. It is the responsibility of the individual to take care of these things.. Don't count on the person working registration to handle it for you.

There was some discussion about having an event on Shenandoah in July, or maybe having an event on that track instead of Jefferson over Memorial Day weekend. There has not been enough positive response that indicates we would have a good turnout in July, so that idea is dead. And, the track is not available for the Memorial Day weekend, so that won't happen either.

The 2011 schedule has been approved. Rose Valley is not on the schedule.

All PHA officers were re-elected. None of the positions were contested.

Next meeting April 2.

LOL! Thanks for the funny responses!!!! Well, except for you, Rich.

Sue, if it was up to me, you could start where you wanted with Gracie AND make the drinks. Hahaha! Very funny post.

Chuck, I like the twin SAAB motors in the 55. I think the addition to that will be a twin turbo set up.

Rich, I think it was INEX-MOD. And the sign they wanted us out was when they started seating people in that room.
