Yep, car is no more. John apparently felt the wings were holding him back from making up the 4 seconds I had on him and took them off. Several people tried to talk him out of that move, but he went ahead. With about 800# less downforce in a section that has some wiggles, he left the road, hit a culvert and flipped it. It landed back on the road on the roll bar and bent the whole assembly about 4 inches off center of the car. There is no part of the car that did not sustain damage. He said he will hang the wing on his wall. He is a very lucky man. John is a pro racer of many years with many wins including the 24 hours of Daytona. He has only three hillclimbs in a high downforce car like Moreck's. Before he left the line, I wondered what I could do to stop him. I though that nothing short of standing in front of the car at the line would work, and probably not even that would work. I've known John for 27 years and knew he woulld not be making a test run, but would go for it.

John's just fine, like any pro racer that has seen many wrecks.

Wow! Glad he's ok. I couldn't 2nd guess the man's decision. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Hillclimbing is a crazy business. We're just glad he's ok.
RIP Joe, my friend.

I really hated to see this really nice corvair torn up as well. I think he was at a few of our events as well.
