Want to be part of the action, hear the sounds, smell the smells and get a good old fashioned adrenalin rush? Here is a deal for you! You can learn to be an SCCA flagger.

On March 28 and 29, 2009 the Mohawk-Hudson, New England, New York and Northern New Jersey regions of the Sports Car Club of America will conduct a two day Flagging and Communications school at world famous Lime Rock Park There will be separate courses for new (no previous experience is necessary) and experienced flaggers. You don’t have to be an SCCA member and there is no charge to attend. You need only to be at least 16 years of age and possess a strong desire to have fun.

For novices who have never set foot on a race track before, do not worry. The school will cover everything you need to know: what to expect at the track, what the flags mean and how to use them, how to prepare for a day at the track, how to communicate effectively, and, most importantly, how to do all these things safely while having fun.

Experienced flagger seminar sessions will include Philosophy (what we're trying to communicate and to whom and why), Execution (concentration, efficiency, technique), Details (care and feeding of equipment, forms and reports), Control operation and "The Art and Science of Blue Flagging".

Saturday will be devoted to classroom sessions and track orientation rides for novices. Sunday will consist of on-track simulations of the types of situations that could be encountered at a race event. (You must participate in Saturday’s sessions to attend Sunday)

Lunch Will Be Provided Both Days!! That’s right, a free lunch.

My Wife and I attended the F&C School last weekend @ Lime Rock. It was a VERY good school. There where allot of Workers there. Saturday was all class room going over the SCCA F&C Manual. Sunday was on Track with mock situations such as Spins, Leaking fluids, Fire!, Metal to Metal, Even had a fake driver fight(that was funny). The weather on Saturday was GREAT!! I got to take a Hot Lap Ride in a 1959 MG ( got my oh-shit meter up). Sunday weather wasn't as kind it was off and on rain most of the morning (we work rain or shine). Ended the weekend with a classroom debrief. Sure was a FUN and Educational weekend!!!

Once again this year, we have been asked to staff the upcoming Pro Racing weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park. This event will feature the Mustang Challenge, the Koni Challenge, SCCA World Challenge and the Rolex Grand-Am GT and Daytona Prototypes. This looks to be a great event to come out and flag, and as you can see by the schedule below that we have a full day of racing. We are scheduled to work on Friday May 1, Saturday May 2 and Sunday May 3. (Thursday is a track practice day. The track is looking for a few experienced workers to staff Thursday and will pay you for the day. They also need a couple of pit and grid people for Thurs.)

We will be having a flag meeting on Friday and Saturday at 7, lunches will be provided all 3 days and there will be a worker social on Friday and Saturday evenings.There is free camping available at the Ligtning course.

For anyone that hasn't seen the Thunderbolt course yet this is a great opportunity to check out this great track. For those of you who were there last year, there is now some grass cover which should cut down on the dust clouds.

Please let me know if you can make it to the event and which days you can work, I'll get back to you with all the details

If this still isnt enough racing for you, NNJR will be hosting a double regional and enduro the following weekend at Pocono, we can use the help there too.

Looks like John's recruiting! John went to St. Ann's school in New Jersey for his grandchildren They asked him to bring the race car to their show and tell for the preschool and first grade class. These are the first graders, and his grand daughter Kisami is in the driver's seat. The PHA future volunteers!

Speaking of "HAT'S OFF" John, mine is off to you and Mary. Four days of working the corners at NJMP with 3 of the days in the rain! What an example of dedication by SCCA, BMR and PHA representatives. Mary should be especially proud of working as a Corner Captain...by herself. I didn't get to ask her how she handled the double yellow in one hand and the waving green in the other for the World Challenge qualifiying sessions:shock: Great work Mary.

Sure was a GREAT 4 days of racing even with the foul weather
Now it's off to Pocono this weekend for a 2 day Double Regional and Pro IT and a 2.5 hour Enduro.

Well it was another GREAT Event @ Weatherly!!! One weekend off then down to Reading for Pagoda Event. We look forward to this as it will be our first time there. Any one with any info to help would be Greatly appreciated. See you all there.

Trans Am Ready to Thunder on Thunderbolt

New Jersey Motorsports Park SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series

Millville, NJ (April 30, 2010) - Without a doubt, one of the series sure to get a rise out of motorsports enthusiasts at New Jersey Motorsports Park is the SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series. These ground thumping, high horsepower muscle cars have the ability to make you feel their power and speed.

The Series itself dates back to 1966. From 1966-1970, the series held a Championship to crown a Manufacturers’ Champion. In 1971, a Drivers’ Championship was formally adopted, with both Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ Championships being awarded through the 2005 season. The series was split into two classes from 1976-1979, crowning Champions in each division. In 2006, two additional races were held, although no Manufacturers’ Champion was recognized.

Throughout the years, some of the greatest names in motorsports have participated in the Trans-Am Series. Backdating the Drivers’ Championship to the inaugural season, 30 different drivers took titles, with multiple Championships being won by racing legends like Paul Gentilozzi, Tommy Kendall, Mark Donohue, Scott Pruett, Wally Dallenbach Jr., George Follmer, Peter Gregg, Horst Kwech, and Scott Sharp. Gentilozzi leads all drivers with 31 career wins.

As a sports car enthusiast, the SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series is a chance to see the raw power of cars like the Jaguar XKR, Chevrolet Corvette, Mazda RX-7, Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang mix it up, wheel-to-wheel.

Last year, Tomy Drissi sandwiched a string of top-five finishes around a win in Portland to capture the championship in his Jaguar XKR over Tony Ave and his Corvette.

What will happen in 2010? That is anyone’s guess, but this weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park should give some clues as to how the season may play out.

SCCA Pro Racing at NJMP featuring Trans-Am Series. Support races will include VW TDI Cup, Spec Racer Pro, Formula Enterprise Pro, and a special Vintage Trans-Am Race!!
