Re: legal helmet

Don is right, as usual. allowed helmets for this season are SA2005 and up. SCCA typically allows the current and previous spec for helmets which right now means SA2010 and SA2005. We expect the next spec in 2015 which means all of those SA2005 helmets have at roughly 3 more years of use. Of course a...

Re: 2012 Pagoda

Morg, I can tell you that when I used to do Rose Valley I manually entered every mail in entry and it took a significant amount of time, roughly 5 minutes per entry. Now, a big part of that reason is I was putting in everything on the entry form. If all everyone wants to see is Name, Class and Numbe...

Re: Proposed change for 2012 year end points.

From a historical perspective the points championship (and really points championships in any series) exists to help encourage participation in as many events as possible. Keep in mind there was a time when events struggled to break even. This years banquet was a great reminder that it was less than...

Re: Proposed change for 2012 year end points.

Interesting thought Morg and I certainly like the idea of recognizing when competitors break a class record. Some of you may remember that when we did Rose Valley we handed out certificates to those individuals and awarded a special trophy to whomever broke a record by the largest margin. I am a lit...

Re: verbal abuse

Back when I started Novice orientation was covered by Jim Cosner. Jim's approach was always that wouldn't tell you how to drive you car, he could only tell you the things to be aware of or avoid along the way. Anyone who has been at racing for any amount of time knows there really isn't one "ri...

Re: verbal abuse

John the Novices used to attend both meetings but we found that frequently meant they were late getting ready to run the novice run. Also it caused the regular driver's meeting to be even more drawn out as people wanted to re-emphasize every detail from the novice meeting at the regular meeting whic...

Re: verbal abuse

Mary Anne, I appreciate the story but I am a little confused as why anyone should think the red flag means anything different at a hill or flat track. My expectation as an official is the same no matter what the event. Come to a controlled stop along the edge of the track and then follow the directi...

Re: verbal abuse

Dave that is a lot of veiled insinuations within one post, particularly for someone who rarely attends any events and hears everything second or third hand. My response may come off as somewhat harsh but I take the operation of our events very personally as I spend a lot of time thinking about what ...

Re: Weatherly

Unless I missed a description of the sticker you guys pre-ordering are awfully trusting of that craft guy from down south. For all I know they could say "Long live SEDIV - So long NEDIV" or something like that. :) On another note for those of us way out of state, how is Weatherly doing wit...

Re: Giant's Despair Corner Workers

I will add a big PLEASE to this request. Giant's is one of the hills that we really struggle to find workers for. This means I have to hound Darryl and Jack on Saturday morning to dig up warm bodies when they (like you) would much rather be getting their cars ready. Please try to bring along a frien...

Re: Formula car roll hoops

This is one of those items that is always in the back of the officials minds, certainly no one is ignored because they have been around awhile. If you have ever noticed one of the Stewards walking by your car looking sideways or crouching down as you pulled up to the line it's probably because somet...

Re: UpHill newsletter

I hesitate to suggest this as I don't have the time to do it but... A good idea for a column would be a series of articles on different classes. Maybe an intro that explains the overall structure such as differences between GCR, Solo and our own unique classes. And then follow on articles that talk ...

I can definitely sympathize with our new webmaster as this has always been the biggest problem in developing this site, or any. Please, everyone ideas are great but content is what is really needed. As for the logo I had the same problem. Ideally we could get a true graphics version of the logo whic...

Re: SCCA SOLO II is F KED UP

Since Dave asked for my input . . . The Time Trials program (under which PHA events operate) can not modify Club Racing or Solo classes beyond the handful of exceptions (e.g. fuel cells, fire systems in some classes) specified in the Time Trials Rulebook (TTR). Because the Time Trials program operat...

Re: Time Trials Classing

Correct, there is no formal protest procedure defined in the rules. The relevant section is based on the description of the event officials. 8.9. TIME TRIALS CHIEF STEWARD The TT Chief Steward is the executive responsible for the general conduct of the event in accordance with the TTR and the Supple...

Re: Time Trials Classing

My impression was a group of people that would be able to advise a new driver on what class(es) he might best fit into. Not sure if others had the same idea, or wanted to take this further.

I believe we have had classing committees before to look at consolidation and alternate classes.

Re: Time Trials Classing

Jeremy, good point, there is a distinct difference between GT1 and the rest of the GT classes so it isn't the cleanest example. The exact text from section 11 of the TTR is: If the vehicle does not fall into a Club Racing class, the cage should be prepared to the GCR equivalent or greater (for examp...

Re: Time Trials Classing

Jeremy, yes I am in contact with divisions throughout the country by way of the other divisional TT program managers. So far we haven't been able to identify a class structure common between the different areas. Also, I did state that the "run what you brung" mentality does not carry one c...
