Re: 2009 Team Points

Just a thought - we really don't need anyone to keep track of the team points - we can all just do it here. I will update the original post as the even results come in. Then we can all look at it to see if I made any mistakes. That way we can deal with it in right away. So if everyone helps out a li...

Re: An apology

I don't know what you have to apologize for either, but you obviously feel you did something out of the ordinary. I think it is great that you are thinking about how how you are coming across - we should all do more of that, and although I accept your apology, I have never really found you to be any...

Re: Southern Hillclimbing - We are gaining velocity!

Don't forget about us in Pittsburgh. I signed over 20 novice books this past weekend at one of our time trials - over 45 drivers competed. Our region will probably show the largest growth of any region by the end of this year when it comes to running in PHA events. Here is our Time Trial home page -...

Re: WEATHERLY REPAVING

Hopefully we will have a record turnout for the Fall, but I am encouraging all of my Pittsburgh gang to go to Spring. Sure the road will be rough, but I don't know about you - I need practice. And since you will probably won't be able to go as fast in the Spring than later in the Fall, that could ma...

Re: Hill / Class Records

"I'll refer to this one as Death on a Stick" Great label - I wouldn't drive one of those, but is it more dangerous than George Bowland's car? It also looks much safer than a FF or Oswald's SV car. And it is not likely to be faster than any of those. Another note about my post above. I repe...

Re: Hill / Class Records

I haven't seen the Factory Five cars that are interested in coming to our events. Kurt has emailed them re: tech inspection - he may know more. We should get more info. On another note, the Solo2 guys are at it again. There is no more SM2 - here are the changes: SM2 becomes SSM STS becomes ST, and S...

Re: Hill / Class Records

Dave - I like your idea of a proposals page, but am not sure where to discuss some of those issues. I have had a problem with us adapting the Street Prepared rules for hillclimbing ever since I started racing. I see the need to have a place for autocross cars to run, and don't want to change that, b...

Re: PHA MARKETING

The thing that often stands in the way of novice deciding to try hillclimbing is lack of knowing what to expect. People don't want to show up and feel unprepared. The web site gives a lot of info, but each one of us can describe what is required in simple terms to our friends. Don't overwhelm them w...

Re: New Years Day Duryea

If I go I will make sure I bring some tools with me so you won't have to resort to tweezers to fix your electrical problems. Also, maybe an extra helmet for Gordon to wear so that he won't end up with any new injuries. Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year.

Give me a few minutes while I calculate the cost per foot of replacing the guard rails vs. me using the armco at Oh Shit to help me gain more exit speed with the goal of using the armco to help slow down my car before turn 7.

Re: Classing Idea For Big Bore SP Cars

I am all for combining classes, but you have to leave AS alone since it is a road race class. ESP and BSP could combine into AS, but not the other way around. We can do anything we want with autocross classes, or special, vintage, etc - classes that we made up. But as Rick Case pointed out last year...

Re: '09 Schedule

I know we can work this out. None of us wants to see any event suffer. Just to clarify things, I was at the PHA meeting, and my only function was to ask Ray Colbert if he could contact National Road to see if they could work with the dates that the PHA membership came up with for Polish Mountain. I ...

Re: Hill / Class Records

You can't compare autocross PAX times with cars running the hills. Horsepower is not as much a factor at an autocross as it is trying to climb a 10% grade, which is the main reason why we moved the turbo cars out of SP and into SM/SM2. As far as records go, I also have an addiction. The reason why I...

Re: Rollcages

The whole idea of "breakout" and making a cage mandatory for cars/driver that exceed a certain speed is ridiculous. Many of the wrecks we have had were in slow cars - Chris in his Chevette, Zaroda in his Escort, Cannon in my sloooow 73 Civic, Glenn in my SSC Neon, and Larry Long wrecked hi...

Re: Rollcages

You guys can discuss this until your fingers cramp up. The facts are that there is no proof that a full cage will save lives. Good driving and a proper respect for the hills will not only save lives, but cut down on accidents. Many of the wrecks we have seen occurred with drivers who were novices, a...

Off the subject, but I would rather have the party for both Pagoda and Duryea at the top of the hill. I don't like having to drive somewhere. That is why I like Weatherly and Rose Valley so much - everything is right there. I also don't mind the walk down to the Fire Hall at Giants, but I would rath...

Re: Rollcages

I only have 1 thing to say, and if anyone thinks I am wrong, they are delusional. Mandatory roll cages will kill the PHA. Entry fees would have to be doubled to make up for the lack of new drivers who will never try hillclimbing due to the expense and commitment that a full cage requires. And then, ...
