Re: Mt. Equinox Skyline Drive - 5.2 miles!

Wish all of you folks could have seen the Eagles Nest Hillclimb views we saw last weekend. The start line is at 4600 ft and the finish is 5300 ft. Houses about 100 ft past the finish are the highest residences East of the Mississippi. View from the turnaround area is unbelievable. Great road and ver...

Re: Showers at Polish

Stan Vann and I used the Firestation showers a couple of years ago. The water is so high in Sulfur that we smelled worse when we were done that we did before. I fill my motorhome tank at the State Park and that water is excellent. Just so you know...

Re: Eagle's Nest?

The workers sign up using the My Autoevents site. There are therefore only 47 entrants at this time. Plenty of time to get registered and drive to the most beautiful spot for a hillclimb you have ever seen. Start line is at 4600 feet and finish, about 1.4 miles away, is at 5200. Road is new and well...

Mel,
Technically it means to pluck off the day. I certainly have had some of those days, especially since I retired. But usually I find something to do.

Re: I Survived the Pagoda Hillclimb

I want to double the dittos on a job well done. Certainly one of the best hillclimbs I have attended in my 27 years of doing this. You guys up here just keep getting better, and the turnout shows that effort is worth it. I especially want to thank Dave Yeager for using his Rollback to pull that 800#...

Re: 2009 POINTS

Dave, For over 20 years, Pro Solo has declared an "Overall Champion" based on the accumulation of points through the season. That seems to me to be the correct designation for your award, although I would probably call it the "Overall PHA Series Champion" to better describe it to...

Re: WEATHERLY REPAVING

Ditto on Mike's comments. Lets all support Spring Weatherly as well as we did Jefferson. Great community there and a very challenging hill. I don't remember anyone in the last few events that broke or crashed due to the pavement. Turn one and the jump caused some problems, but that won't change with...

Dave..
I assume from all your Forum activity this past Winter, that you plan to run the whole series. Otherwise, why would you spend so much time trying to change it? See you at Jefferson.

Any Traqmate users out there?

Has anyone used a Traqmate at the hills with any success? Seems to me there is likely to be some signal blocking due to trees and steep hills.

Re: Hill / Class Records

Having raced a Special for all 26 of my hillclimb seasons, I can tell you that the crowd comes to see the muscle cars with big V8s. There is little interest in 150hp front wheel drive cars, or chain saw driven fully cars. I have often been told I should put a large sound system on my car that emits ...

Bill, Great piece of writing. Well thought out and many points I can relate to. Co-Drivers I especially relate to using a co-driver to measure your skill level. I have as much experience with that as anybody I know, having come in second to my co-driver four times at the Solo Nationals. I often thin...

Diane,
Contact (jim@autocross.us) who runs the Autocross.us site and he can supply you with the two best hillclimb videos I've ever seen. One from Blue Ridge and one from Crow Mountain. The Crow Mt. version took him about 200 hours to produce along with four camera locations.

Re: Street Prepared Turbo cars should be moved to SM and SM2

My only experience with the Rally Audi was when Buffum showed up at Chimney Rock the year after he broke the Pikes Peak record, about 1988. He attended the sponsor's party on Friday night before the race weekend and was telling everyone who would listen that he should break the hill record on Saturd...

So Dave....did I get your message correctly? The first and last sentences are an apology for making an inflammatory statement on the Forum and the three paragraphs between are an explanation of why you were right to make the rash statement?

Re: Finish line radar - Duryea

No...No...No.
I have not run the 1/8 mile with the wing setup I used at Duryea. I did run a few months ago with one additional flap on each wing; was just north of 101mph, and the Cateye was within 1/2 mph on each run.

Re: Finish line radar - Duryea

I use a $42 Cateye Bicycle speedometer. It calibrates exactly with the traps at my local 1/8 mile. I was at 116.9, the fastest I've ever been in my little homebuilt.

Duryea Surprise

I had two surprises this past week. Of course, the fact that my car worked so well on the hill was one, but the other was the huge effort that goes into putting on Duryea. Since I was a drop in racer the last time I was here in 1987, I did not see the work done to setup and tear down. Now that took ...
