Re: Time Trials Classing

Matt, A GT1 car requires a cage but, a GT2-3 car does not. If they are all GT (tube frame) classes what is the ruling on what requires a cage in a made up class? How fast of a GT car it is? And is any non tube frame car okay with just a roll bar? (ex. We now have Super touring over class that is not...

Re: Time Trials Classing

Let me clarify also that if you had a cage you could run a SOLO class if you wanted but you can't run a GCR class. I don't see how there is harm in this for any region around the country. edit: The whole roll cage vs roll bar requirement still to me seems alittle vague when it comes to making up cla...

Re: Time Trials Classing

Kurt, I will look to see what i can find out about that car. Matt, Would it not be worth it to contact the other regions that hold TT's and see if we are on any commen gound as to classing? And from what i see there are only a handful of regions that do a significant TT program. ( please correct me ...

Re: Very interested in getting behind the wheel!

Oh and FWIW, 9.2.1 of the TTR- The points covered at tech and safety inspection A. Eligibility for class entered. Compliance with the TTR, GCR and solo specification books. Each car should have a complete and up to date logbook. Sooooo, The tech guys really are suppose to deal with car classing. Tha...

Re: Very interested in getting behind the wheel!

Okay its time to put on my official hat, this is getting stupid. And yes i do hold official licenses from the SCCA. You are doing a good job reading thru the rules. The class that you have found in the GCR that you want to run is ITS. Now stop and put down the GCR! Pick up the TTR and start reading....

Re: Very interested in getting behind the wheel!

I think we already proved that a tech inspector should not always be believed also. "We" did no such thing. You may have proved that someone who has volunteered to help out with tech inspection at events (and thank you for your efforts) does not have answers at his fingertips, but he is n...

And yes i'm fully aware what solo prepared class is. Thats my point! Use them. It would make everything easier. And hell we already have a bizillion classes so who cares.

Re: Very interested in getting behind the wheel!

So if we just used all solo classes for cars with roll bars we could have just told this guy, " hey, you have a car that has a roll bar. Great, look at the solo rules to find out what class your in. Oh your in ?prepared. great. Your roll bar meets specs. you now need helmet, fire ext, driving s...

Re: Very interested in getting behind the wheel!

SVTFOCUS, does your car fit into touring 2 or 3 mayb?. You woudn't need a kill switch in that class according to the GCR!

FWIW. showroom stock and touring don't require kill swithes per the GCR.

Re: Very interested in getting behind the wheel!

Stick with us SVTFOCUS! It will be worth all your effort. Just kinda sit back and watch this one tho. There are actually some very important things being brought up here that its time to address them for the coming years. Kill switch is listed under 10.24. of the TTR Thats a funny rule tho." It...

Re: Very interested in getting behind the wheel!

SVTfocus, I cant' answer the question about a roof scoop for you. If it were a few years ago i would just say to show up talk to your fellow competitors and ask them if they are okay with it. (which 99% of them would be) but, if you want to see a shit storm post that up! If its not legal its n...

Re: Very interested in getting behind the wheel!

Or make a national SCCA TT classing system and put it in the TTR. Get rid of any reference or requirement to read any rulebook other then the TTR.

Re: Very interested in getting behind the wheel!

Dale, I appoligize for jumping over that post. My thought is to require all GCR classes to require a roll cage and all GCR specs for that class. If you want to run a roll bar only you run a SOLO class or vintage. (Which we then open up all the way to mod cars, Which will take care of the no interior...

Re: Very interested in getting behind the wheel!

Oh geez here we go again. The GCR is only used for car classification! Thats it. None of those classes require a roll cage as per the TTR.

Not trying to cause problems bu,t if our own tech inspectors don't kno what they are talking about how are we to help anyone?

Re: Very interested in getting behind the wheel!

From the looks of it i'd really think about putting carpet and door panels back in and running SMF.

Dave, How soon you forget that you recieved your wish when we did the ITE rules. That is a full cage only class!

Re: Very interested in getting behind the wheel!

Geez, I'm not sure what to tell you. Its nice to see you looking thru the rules to figure things out. The fact that something like a roof vent would push you out of a class is stupid (Hence my strong opinion that SCCA needs to rethink TT classing structure) ! Now the flywheel i can accept as bumping...
