Re: Duryea Surprise

Tim,
We miss you bud. So what's the story? Ol' Mash has returned to bring his special kind of joy to our hillclimbs down in Carolina and we'd like to see you back. If not to drive just hang out. I did that at Duryea and had a fine time.

Re: Duryea Record Falls

I really believe we can help change this situation. We just have to do as Dave has done and make some noise. Grassroots Motorsport magazine has begun to offer us great coverage. We had one of their writers entered at both Wolf Ridge and Eagles Nest the last two years. He did a great article on Wolf ...

Re: Duryea Record Falls

I agree, we are about to see several of the giants of hillclimbing come out of retirement to create a battle like we have never seen before. This may get very interesting in the next few years.

Re: Duryea Surprise

For some of you who may not know, George's vehicles (somehow that seems more appropriate than cars) are designed by his son Todd and built by George. That has got to make these wins even more special for them. I've known both of them for about 25 years now and have always been amazed at what they co...

Re: The Kings of Duryea...

2001 & 2002 - Yet another back to back FTD'er…Barry Griffith runs the Danko Gas Merlyn club Ford to two FTD titles back to back. 2001's 1:57.924 is followed by a 1:54.889 in 2002. I don't have a photo of Barry in the CF…so a photo in the FC that he ran the wheels off will have to do! Ron, Not t...

Re: The Kings of Duryea...

2000 - A new decade…but a familiar face is back on top of Duryea. Kerry Hitt comes back again, in what else but a Corvette and takes FTD honors running a 1:49.828. Now take a moment and scroll back to 1973, to Kerry's first FTD outing a Duryea…check the times, the drivers and the cars. This would b...

Re: The Kings of Duryea...

1989 - Tommy Van Scoy slams the record down more, running a 1:49.472. He is the first person to go below the 1:50 mark. He too is in a March formula atlantic. I can remember listening to the New York radio stations in high school (Cousin Brucie, etc.) and hearing the ads for the Van Scoy Diamond Mi...

Calling J W Orrs

I had a minor incident at last weekends Eagles Nest Hillclimb and broke a wheel. I didn't realize how rare these old Minilites in the size I need are. I remember J W Orrs had a rebodied Caldwell D9 so perhaps he has a wheel he would sell. Does anyone have a address or phone number for him? The specs...

Re: Duryea Hillclimb Party

I personally really enjoyed the Saturday night party at that German club. It is unique from anything we have in the Carolinas. Of course you would find our outdoor pork BBQs to be just as entertaining I bet. That is if we can ever get more of you to come down. Folks down here have gotten over Gettys...

Ron, Jerry Kieft's Bandit is indeed racing again after about 10 years. Jerry sold it and it bounced around a while but finally George Bowland helped South Carolina's Ted Theodore find and buy it. Throughout the winter with help from a few of the legends of southern hillclimbing, Ted entered his firs...

Ron, From my well worn first edition of "The Unfair Advantage", page 2."In the spring of my junior year at Brown, Dave invited me to take my Corvette to a hill climb at Belknap, New Hampshire. ------- I managed to run the course slightly quicker than he (Dick Jalbert) did, in fact, I ...

Re: Shenandoah Circuit question?

Hi Mary Anne, ACTUALLY, Bill and his wife went to Germany and the famous 14 mile Nurburgring and measured the curve exactly. He told us how a track official came out to run them off and recognized him from 30 years before, when he raced there in the Formula Super Vee World Championship. They took th...

Re: Shenandoah Circuit question?

First of all. Thor we missed you BUD. Now, with 70 plus entries as we are seeing at Jefferson, I doubt we'd have to double the fees. I would think 70 X $200 would cover it. Of course I've never been able to see the actual costs of running one of these events. Would anyone care to share this informat...

Shenandoah Circuit question?

Last weekend Dave Cutchins and I went over to the Shenandoah track to check out the Bill Scott Formula Series we had read about on Apexspeed.com. Anyway, since both Dave and I have some wheel to wheel experience, Bill and his son Jens invited us over on Sunday morning for a free practice session to ...

Thanks PHA

Dave, George, and I had a great weekend up there with you guys this weekend. I think conditions were the best I can remember. For sure the old Caldwell liked them. We finally talked a few of our younger autocross friends into trying Time Trials and they really enjoyed it. Over dinner on the trip hom...
