Re: Can't wait to see where this goes...
I'd like to see timers at a couple of locations for the crowd. Especially if it's possible to have the car number and time. That would be great for them. I don't know what that would cost or where to look but it's certainly a cool idea. If nothing else, the car number added would help tremendously ...

Re: Joe Foering
I got the sad news last night from Jen...I will always remember Joe as a fierce competitor but also as the ultimate raconteur. Told funny stories too. Scot Hess and I used to tease him when he ran the Dodge Omni 4 door that it looked like a Little Caesar's pizza delivery car...so much so that we'd y...

Re: Rule Compliance
I believe what you are proposing existed in the past and was known as the "contest board".
The Board also had four committees (I'm quoting from the 1972 rulebook):
License
Safety
Sedan
Modified and Formula

Re: Panic state
Yeah, I liked reading about the Targa too, but then again it was 4 to 5 page ad for Millen's company and it helped R&T sell a few magazines in this internet crazy world. Plus, I am not too sure that the Targa people enjoyed having its handicap system trashed thru out the article. As much as we ...

Re: Panic state
Goldmine? I guess that's a hillclimb? More correctly, was. Run in the mid-'70s, Goldmine road runs from Tower City to SR 443. The hill 's start line was approx 1 mi N of the junction with 443 and ran to the top of the ridge. It was unique in that the pits/paddock were in the MIDDLE of the course!

Re: Panic state
The Gold Mine Hillclimb (run in the mid-'70s) road had grown center-line rumble grooves by the time I went back and took pictures approx 5 yrs ago. IIRC it is the only "lost hillclimb" road that this has happened to, which of course prevents it from ever being resurrected. I don't know the...

To be proactive: I don't remember seeing this in supplementary regulations recently, but back in the day there was an occasional event where we were told "no open exhaust cars before..." a certain time, say, 8 AM. For all I know it's still in effect. However: Might we post a sign or two ar...

It was ever thus (Part Deux, since it's a French car, see?).
In 1975 Don invited me to co-drive his R8. In those days we ran in strict class order and I got first run at the late lamented Red Rock Hillclimb. It was raining at the time and I hit a runoff while setting up for a right hand turn and plowed into the bank. Popped the windshield out and pushed the L...

Having been around since 1972, I've been there, done that with noise control. I remember sitting in a BMW(1974) at Giants' start line behind Jake Krone 's Mazda RX-2. You could see a literal wave of people falling back from the fence holding their ears as Jake went up the hill. Oscar Kovaleski asser...
