Towing Question.

If I am towing my car on an open trailer and I come up on a Weigh Station that says "All Trucks Must Enter". Does that include me or is it just for CDL class stuff? In all my years of towing I have never come across a station that was operating while I was towing. Before I call Penn DOT an...

Re: Records?

Dave is right about Kerry Hitt being clocked doing 160ish at the finish at Duryea. It was a C-5 GT-1 Corvette (Really a Trans-Am class car with a full tube chassis and NASCAR motor making around 700hp). When Floyd Schrammeck started racing our hills he had the Ford engine. He set most if not all of ...

Re: What is a good starter car for hill climbs and why?

My "Co-drive credo" has always been "If I can't afford to fix it or replace it I will not drive it." And as far as my own racecars go I was told a long time ago by a very wise man that if you can't afford to walk away from it when it is just a ball of twisted metal then you shoul...

After checking back at this thread it did occur to me that in the time frame I was talking about there was no such thing as a WRX STi or Lancer EVO. Those 2 cars changed the game. All we had were Shelby Chargers, GLH's and the Colt Turbo. Like it was already said, A case by case might need to be loo...

It almost sounds like Mike has a DSP car hidden somewhere that he could get a record in as long as there are no turbos out there to take it away from him :D . Just Kidding! All kidding aside I thought 4 cylinder turbo cars ran in BSP for hillclimbs? Or is it another forgotten rule that has not appea...

Welcome to the world of building a street car into a race car!!!! Two of our PHA officials Matt Green and Matt Rowe are very well versed in little Dodges with turbos. Anything you find that is needed or you have no clue about they are the best guys to start with.

It really comes down to the other people in your class. If each of you get together and agree on what is fair and not too far outside the box then go have fun. But, don't forget if someone new comes along and wants to protest and you are found to be illegal then that is on you. I know what you guys...

The cam change you are talking about will bump you out of a Street Prep. class and into something like Street Mod. Port & Polish well,,, that can be pretty hard to detect if done rite  . Let me put it to you this way. Back when I was running Street Prep there was four or five of us running...

Wow it almost sounds like a Rob Cassiday scene  . So far I think Robs journey to get into SCCA roadracing takes the cake. For those of you who don't know the story in his first school he puts a rod through the block of his Camaro. Then borrows a Camaro from Dave Miller to finish the school. T...

I was also going to reply that the Nitto's are not that great of a choice unless you are stuck driving to the events on the race tires with no way of bringing a seperate set of weels/tires. As was already stated the hot ticket is to run an Autocross compound tire. In your case it must be a D.O.T tir...

4:11's are a good choice on paper for almost every hill we run. But, people that have tried them said that gear changes come up in less than ideal spots. I opted for 3:73's because of the long strait at Duryea and less tire spin on corner exit of tighter hills like Weatherly and Rose Valley. With 4:...

Great idea Dave. Since SCCA likes to think of time trials as a ladder to roadracing I am sure there are a few people running hills looking at things the same way. So much of what I have learned about car control running hills has already saved my butt a few times.

Thanks Tim!! Your photo evidence proves we were there  . It was amazing to see the waves of fog rolling through the track. Almost all of us got our cars back on the trailers the same as we took them off. Dave Miller lost oil pressure in his Camaro when he got to impound. Congrats on the 3rd pla...

Thanks for the follow up Joe. I read the memo and thought it was a good idea to pass it along. I guess the Glen region has not updated their site in a bit. Since it was in bold type on their main Roadrace page I thought it was current.

MOMO Harness Recall

I came upon this on the Glen Region website: Recall notice sent by MOMO to SCCA. Manufacturing defects have been found in certain model MOMO harnesses which render them unsafe, and they are being recalled. These harnesses bear the MOMO "Corse" or "MOMO" name (or "ACR" i...

Before I took my Mustang off of the street I went to a craft store and bought a magnet sheet and put the PHA and SCCA stickers on it and cut them out around the edges. It was an easy way to see where I would like them and then I did not have to drive around with stickers on the car. As for the novic...
