Safety Rule Recommendation: Multi-Layer Suits

I know it gets hot in our driver suits, but is 2 layer really enough? As far as I know, a 2 layer doesn't really protect your from flames ... it just buys you so extra time to get out of the car in case of a fire. I mean, what if someone wrecked big and was trapped in a car on fire? Imagine Fabio's ...

Safety Rule Recommendation: Speed Limiters

I am shocked at some of the speeds some drivers can obtain on the hill climbs. Is all that speed really safe? Would it be possible to mandate speed limiters on the cars? If we limited everyone to 55 mph, it would keep us a lot safer and the competition would even much closer! For those that think 55...

Safety Rule Recommendation: Fire Suppression Systems

Is it just me, or is the required 5 lb extinguisher not enough? What is a 5 lb extinguisher really going to do? Maybe it could put out the course workers cigarette while they try to extracate you. Seriously, if Pike's Peak requires on-board fire suppression, maybe we should consider it as well. I be...

Safety Rule Recommendation: Force Fields

Can you believe we are still allowed to do the hills without a proper force field?

I would hate to see the entire series lost because someone died without a proper force field and their family sued. Oh, and I would not like to see them hurt either.

Who is in favor of mandating force fields?

I'll still write to SCCA but it sure seems that Matt's mind is made up & his opinion will count for more than all of us combined. Unfortunately it truly seems this is all in vane and pointless. Even if National does not adopt the rule (yeah right), there is nothing to stop them from making it p...

"little boys" ... how is insulting people beneficial to anyone? Really Rich, I wouldn't have thought that you would stoop to that level. Regardless, polling just the members of one forum is not going to give you an accurate view of who this will affect and how they will respond. You can't ...

For those who aren't yet tired of the debate going on ... Now for those who have suffered through long enough to read all of this back and forth crap ... Nice Matt, real nice. It's great to know that the leader of this organization finds it tiring and suffering to address the legitimate concerns of...

I'm not saying it has to based on physics, or crash test data, or anything. But it can't be based on gut feel. What is the proposed rule based on? Why is the onus on us to prove that a certain car is sufficiently safe with just a bar? Why not put the onus on the other side to prove that a roll bar ...

Another thing about the proposed rule that makes no sense to me: If the series is at risk of being cut because of one bad accident, how do you justify waiting until 2011 to initiate this rule? I understand that you would almost have to give folks a year leeway to get their car's situated, but why r...

Now Jeff is trying to bait me into saying I don't think any car should be allowed on a hill without a cage, so that he can continue to say I'm being unreasonable and shout that the decision has been made. Sorry, Jeff. Sorry Matt, but you baited yourself with the "If we can all agree that somew...

Car C = ITA = cage already As for A vs B, you are grabbing the stats on the 6 cylinder Z3 - correct? How about just 4 cylinder NA cars in those classes for bars? Matt in my first post in here I asked you for an example of one car (or class) that you feel does not need a cage. You answered, "No ...

Dave, I think that is a brilliant start. Matt, you indicated in the other thread that you do not feel the roll bar allowed rule should have ever been allowed. That sure sounds like your miind is made up on the conversation so what dialogue is there to have? I think Dave already stated why he thinks ...

If we can all agree that somewhere between a GT1 car and a tricylce a point exists where a cage is required. Do we all sincerely agree with that? It seems as that your mind is already made up that every vehicle in a hillclimb should have a full cage. If not, then I suggest that you start the discus...

Do you honestly believe drivers are going to lift off early halfway up turn 1 to Weatherly, or to coast through 6 at Duryea? And how do we enforce this when they don’t. The fallacy in your argument is your are trying to use a elapsed time to address a problem with speed. I agree with that. Did you ...

As I asked before at what point do we draw the line and how? Well let’s start discussing. How is the line drawn here: The proposal currently states that some vintage and historic vehicles are exempt based on their potential. And I have been to a drag strip once or twice in my life, I’ve seen plenty...

So, limiting the cage requirements by class does not seem practical as it would at best only allow a couple of the less popular classes. Are Vintage & Historic "immune" from the proposed rule? If so, why? This would mean a person is allowed to run without a cage until they exceed some...

Look at the photo and tell me that a roll cage wouldn't have made an important difference if this was a right hand drive car. Notice the position of the "A" pillar in relation to what would be the driver's position. I appreciate that as we evaluate safety rules, it is important to conside...

I know I said I would be quiet but since Jeff's involvement in the MR2 community has brought many new MR2 owners in to comment let's take a look at a relevant example and see what they think. Sorry to call your bluff Matt, but when you make comments like this: "That's fine Jeff, you show 2 goo...

Fourth, I'm quite sure no one as you say, "is showing you the door." But honestly Jeff I think you are taking this way to personally. You are anticipating something that may never happen. If and when it. Morg I appreciate the post and that means a lot. I am not taking this personally and ...
