Re: The Bad Old Days

John,

I believe you are referring to the Pierre Levegh accident in 1955. Levegh was driving a Mercedes 300SLR (not sure about the model but it was a Mercedes)

Strangely enough it seems that a fair amount of those guys in the video actully walked away...(not making excuses or anything...)

Re: Steelers

And maybe they have a half decent football team but they suck at hockey!!!! Why would the Steelers be good at hockey? I am reminded of flying out of DFW on the day of the 2006 Super Bowl. AS I stood inline at the ticket counter (trying to get out on an earlier flight) I caught a glimpse of a ...

Re: Alternate to Rose Valley? OR: Hey, Larry!

Just throwing this out there, as I've not been active here like I'd like to be but... How about Northern NJ? There's some really nice hills up that way... Is there a stretch of road that can be shut down and has safe runoff area, etc.? Does NJ allow roads to be shut down for reasons such as a speed...

Alternate to Rose Valley? OR: Hey, Larry!

Unless I miss my guess, Rose Valley seems to be a dead issue. Not that I or anybody would wish it so, but... Would the possibility exist that we might want to look at something in the general area, on PA Rt 554 Sulphur Springs Rd south of South Williamsport. It would start in the vicinity of Hawbake...

Re: Intersting Website With Historic Hillclimb & Road Race I

The ex- Oscar McLaren crashed and burned at the finish line at Giants' Despair in 1974.

Oscar road-raced an ex- CanAm car in the late '70s. I don't know if the car had been the rebuilt '74 wreck or not. I would be surprised if it had...

Not to be a wet blanket, but...

Worked the hill for two years (Tuscarora)and crewed for Garth Ullom. Also took the pictures Ron posted in 2002 IIRC. To be fair the pictures do NOT do the state of the road (after the horseshoe) justice. It's worse! Also I believe there are houses built since the hill was last run. The last picture ...

Re: Hillclimb in Emmaus or Macungie in the 60's?

Fleetwood was very close to town, IIRC they used part of a residential street as pit/paddock.

And depending what your definition of "close" is, it's kinda close to Macungie...

Re: Weatherly notes

Actually, the hole is on driver's left (unless you're sideways or backwards as you approach it) :) I had the same idea about tires and mentioned it to Ray (Weatherly Hillclimb Association) after the event. He thought it was a great idea. I'll try to remember to remind them for next spring. Rich Roc...

Weatherly notes

Two things to ponder as we go into winter after Weatherly: 1. During the cleanup(s) at Five, both cars had gone into the big hole on driver's right. It was suggested that this be filled in but it is apparently drainage and can't be. I have a sugggestion... ...Tires. That's right, an internal tire wa...

Re: Trout Run Firefighter Lost

Just a FYI update. The local news is still following this story. Yesterday they stated this young man was the first loss during duty for the Trout Run Volunteer Fire Company. They also said he started as a Junior Firefighter. Accordingly, I would imagine he was at Rose Valley helping in some capaci...

Re: Giants

Will there be a DVD avaliable from WYLN of the weekend? I heard it was good coverage. I understand it was nothing if not thorough. In fact when I got on station (5, left hand portion of the Esses) I was cautioned by Daryl Danko to watch where I took a bathroom break, as the camera coverage on the h...

One question regarding the photo caption (Green Mini passing '115 MPH' sign): Just what in the blue eyed hell is a "Sunday Voice A Car"?
