Club Racing Spring Driver School at Summit Point

If you are thinking of taking the Spring Club Racing (road racing) Driver School at Summit Point, the entry form is out. Go to http://www.wdcr-scca.org and then go to online registration. I will personally be there along with several other PHA members to crew and help friends get thru school. If any...

Time Trials Track Format

I am trying to form a commitee to propose a format change to our Time Trial Level 3 track events. The intent of the commitee is make make recommendations or proposal to be considered by the event organizers and get feedback from drivers. Since many of the people I would like to have volunteer for th...

VINTAGE

Matt,
Although it was never enforced, open vintage or historic cars with a rollbar only were supposed to run as exibition only. Do the TT rules officially allow full competition for V and H open cars with roll bars?

You are getting a lot of good advise here. As a rule of thumb, the insurance company should let you buy back the car for 10% to 20% of the ACV (Actual Cash Value, that's the retail price before damage). You don't need to buy back the mods that they are not allowing value for. Typically that car dama...

180

I'll concede that some cars aren't set up to do 180's, but short wheel based all wheel drive rally cars should be. Case in point for the fast line: Dan Ruttan (that's a V6 all wheel drive I think?) beat Merlin Miller for FTD at Duryea. I didn't get to watch Dan too much but what I saw was very littl...

By my recollection, Sammy (Ron Jr) Moreck has most of the hill records. I never saw that car slide one bit (except on the launch).

tires

No, the Autocrossers wont last. I tried once on the Jefferson track. They were corded and blistered in 3 laps. What I do is go over to the big track at Summit during one of the big races and dig out cast aways from the tire guys. I can usually get a track day or two out of them. Easy tire size to fi...

tires

I'm not familiar with the Hoosier model numbers, but the Autocrossers are the only tire I would ever run on a hillclimb. Both the bias and radial are ideal. They don't need warming up, they are sticky at the first turn, have ideal sizes for 13" wheels( I run 225-45-13 not sure if they fit 6&quo...

PENSKE TOUR

I'm afraid I spoke too soon about setting up a tour of the Penske shop. My son says they are being very particular about who they let in right now. They are doing the change over to the Honda engines and they are real secretive about having the cars exposed. It is interesting to see what they go thr...

Thank you Sue and Nelson. Now that you mention it Nelson, I remember you making the comments before about Chris's injuries being so minor. I couldn't remember the details but I knew you new something about it. That's why I have a tee shirt that reads, "been there, done that, can't remember"...

It's great to hear we had a positive impact on you. I'll pass your comments on to Aaron. Formula SAE is a good learning experience. Several of Aarons team mates went on to racing careers. One went to Honda Pro Ralley Team, one to Toyoda TRD, another in NASCAR. Aarons best friend went PSU on their SA...

Yup, that's me. My son Aaron went to RIT and was my co-driver in the black Rabbit. He is now an engineer for Penske's IRL team and has no time to drive any more.
Let me know if I can help you.

I posted a new topic to request a copy for you. Somebody on this list has to have it. I bevieve I heard that Chris had only a minor injury like a broken wrist or something. I think I heard that was his last hillclimb. Just to let you know, I'm all for your Dad letting you hillclimb. The best and mos...

Chris Burns Video request

About a year or two ago the video of Chris Burns cartwheeling his F440 at turn six of Duryea resurfaced and was passed around. I think it may have been Nelson or Rick that had the copy and sent it to the PHA or BMR list. I lost my copy in a computer crash. Did anyone else save a copy? Nelson or Rick...

Hey, does anyone have the copy of the video of Chris Burns cartwheeling his 440 at turn six(why we call it "Oh Sh_t") at Duryea. I believe Nelson circulated a copy a year or two ago. F1racer77 should take a look at that. May scare him away but the result was Chris wasn't hurt. Personally, ...

Penske

Don't forget we have a friend on the inside. Former avid Hillclimber and still current BMR member, Aaron Yeager is an engineer for Team Penske's IRL team. Much to my dismay he will be moving to NC after next years racing season. Before they move perhaps we should consider organizing a tour for the P...

seats

Just a general word of advise to all on seats. SCCA allows an FIA approved seat without back bracing as long as the mounts meet FIA specs. I have gone nuts trying to locate the specs that FIA requires. It's like a secret that no one can understand. I just know that the tech guys look at standard sea...
