Re: Hillclimb cars

Dig that crazy fat-fendered Puma - looks like an entire carbon fiber body. Crazy Brits!

The course looks lots more open than ours with more runoff room. (OK so they are still more hardcore than us, just trying to make us all feel a little better about it.)

Re: Cannonball Run

What a fun post. I had heard about some of the true stories that were used in the 1st Cannonball movie, but didn't realize all the who's-who names in racing that were involved. Like Pete Brock dressed as the priest - LOL.

Re: Boo-hoo the season's over, or is it?

Haw haw - yeah I forgot about the incredibly convoluted rules they run! Have not run with New England in a long time; actually the rules were one of the main reasons. (Sidebar -they used to require all cars to have a tubular safety device all around you in the interior - a device that shall remain a...

Boo-hoo the season's over, or is it?

The New England Hillclimb folks are running their last event at Philo on October 17 & 18. Philo is about 30 minutes south of Burlington, VT. (Note that the schedule shows the event as 'tentative' but according to their forum, it's ON, brothers & sisters.) http://hillclimb.org/ Oh and of cour...

Re: Rolling History...

Right - even cooler that the car has hillclimb history. Sue - where's the MGA been anyway? Miss that dinosaur. A few years back I had the opportunity to buy one of the old Schuler Bros. Datsun roadsters which ran PA hillclimbs in the 70's and maybe 80's. I kick myself that I didn't; but I already ha...

And the MVP award for Fall Weatherly goes to...

Don McLaughlin and the R5... Sunday AM conversation, after Don's Saturday rollover- Me: "Sorry to hear about the mishap. Do you think you'll be able to rebuild it?" Don: "Actually I'm just looking for some brake fluid, I'm trying to make it for the next run." Me: "Huh!?"...

Re: Rolling History...

I'll repeat myself by saying that the diversity of hardware is one of things I love most about this group. To me at least, its the cars that you least expect to be raced that look the coolest when they are all gutted and re-engineered and otherwise prepared for war. It takes talent to convert a 911 ...

That'll be a marked improvement over the last full moon I saw at a hillclimb. That would be early Saturday AM when I mistakenly glanced into the Saab trailer as Charlie was pulling up the race suit...

Re: Mt. Equinox Skyline Drive - 5.2 miles!

Actually looking at Bobs post - the 'pre 1970' eligibility probably (in rounded terms) refers to 1973 when the race was turned over from SCCA to control of the VSCCA. So any cars that ran the event 1973 or earlier are basically grandfathered in. Good luck and show 'em how its done with that McKee, B...

Re: Mt. Equinox Skyline Drive - 5.2 miles!

Sorry to tie up more PHA bandwidth but thought I would dispel some rumors - just got off the phone with their very enthusiastic Event Chairman. The pre-1970 is definitely wrong. OK you caught me - I was trying to see if I could schmooze my way in with the 68 Datsun, which means I'd have missed Durye...

Re: Mt. Equinox Skyline Drive - 5.2 miles!

I thought Equinox was for earlier cars as well - like the usual VSCCA list of entries (i.e. the car has to have an airplane engine from WW1, chain drive, and rope around the exhaust pipe.)

Darn it all. But good news that it should be back. Probably my favorite event!

I was in that creek so much last year my toes pruned. Drove down there between every single run.

Re: Racers With C4 Corvettes

Hi JeepCycle, The level of safety equip. required is dependant on the level of the modification of the car. Disclaimer - I don't have the SCCA GRC close to hand so I cite from memory. And my memory aint so good. Do download and review the latest SCCA GCR and Solo regulations. SCCA rules are used. St...

About 4 for me as I anticipate a coming late to the party this year. New Datsun in the works that will be tying up time, funds while I complete it.

And the rollcage in that car will be complete this afternoon. ; )
