Re: The Kings of Giant's Despair...

Hey Ron!

Great article! Nice job with the research. You put a lot of time into it and it shows!
Thanks for bring the memories back! I was there in 1958 and every year since!
A lot of racing folks past & present took a run at that hill. Nice history .
Keep it going!
Best wishes!

Re: Watkins Glenn Vintage Grand Prix

SPeaking of Joel's Cobra Daytona , a lot of people take exception with these "kit"cars being raced in "Vintage" races. They 're only six "original" Cobra Daytonas. But now Ole Shell is granting a "few" more vin numbers for people shelling out $175,000.00 each ...

Great topic Ron!! How about THE BLUE GOOSE. My favorite was John Meyers Meyers Special. A pontiac powered beautiful special. He also had a "early" Meyer Special that was an open wheel car. Would like to see a pic of that one. How about Bud Faust's Lotus with a Buick motor . Oscar's Super C...

The "Flying Dentist" Dr. Dick Thompson drove a '59 Vette at the Giant. Local Car Dealer, Ken Wallace drove a Vette at the Giant. (Even Oscar drove it that year!!) I think Walt Hangsen even drove a Vette at Climbs. A driver from NJ named Frank Morganti (sic) drove a '62 Vette .Road raced it...

Ron!! Read Mark's book...The Unfair Advantage. Shows him with his Corvette, headlights taped etc. He won his class in his FIRST hillclimb!! He then went with an ELVA C. for road racing. I forgot where the Hill was, but it's in the book.
