Re: Crow Mountain

I met Rich at my very first autocross (ever) in Atlanta in 1993. In those days he was still streeting an F-body car (think it was a Firebird). We have mutual friends in Jeff and Karen Duncan. I had a blast that day and never forget Rich's larger than lifesized enthusiasm for cars and racers. Around ...

Re: Alternative Fuels in Hillclimb

Wow, great history with the steam cars - neat picture. It did occur to me that fuels are kind of a regulatory thing in the GCR

Still, if someone makes a competitive production car (whatever it runs on) the rules will have to accomodate it!

Is it spring yet ?

Alternative Fuels in Hillclimb

Reading the full road test of the TESLA electric sports car in this month's R&T got me wondering something. Does anyone have knowledge of non-gasoline cars competing in Pennsylvania hillclimbs? Steam, diesel, electric, CNG? Considering that your history goes back to the earliest automobiles, som...

Re: Those Great Specials...

Our newly recovered infomation on the 1956 Breakneck National includes some details of a "Morvette", that apparent creation of one Roger Wing - who wedged a late model Corvette engine into a Morris Minor. Looks like he ran in CM1. Does "Roger Wing" appear at Giant's Despair or ot...

Re: Breakneck Hillclimb - 1955 and 1956

A friend of ours sent us scans of the SCCA DC Region Straightpipe covering the 1956 Breakneck National Hillclimb. This article contains a lot of information that we did not have and some stories that we had not heard. For instance, this article tells us that Shelby stripped the gears on the ex-Ascar...

Re: Breakneck Hillclimb - 1955 and 1956

Would you happen to have any information regarding the Town Hill/ Breezewood event that took place approx 1959? I am told it ws on old Rt 26 near Town Hill but unsure which side of the mountain. It had apparently less than 20 entries. My original information source didn't come through... Mel, my su...

Re: Rare birds...errr, cars!

Rich…you are correct two fold!! This is in fact Howard Hanna in a Deutsch-Bonnet Panhard. Tom…you were close but ended up kinda cold with Dave Latsha (but keep him in mind later…he certainly drove some odd balls too!) Read more about Deutsch-Bonnets here: http://www.panhardusa.org/aboutpdb.phtml In...

Re: Breakneck Hillclimb - 1955 and 1956

Mel, I will ask our Cumerland guys. They say that there were other HC around Flintstone into the 60s that were locally sanctioned, I had not heard that they were on Town Hill - but I will ask.

Re: Those Great Specials...

Here is another interesting one! 1954 Giant's Despair, Lou Fageol ran this interesting Porsche based special in the C Modified class! Ron, the Fageol machine (?) also showed up at the Cumberland Nationals on May 16, 1954. Here is a photo of the car in action. It is not the best picture, but there i...

Re: Those Great Specials...

Has anyone ever heard of the "Ferro Special"? A fellow named William Ferro entered it in the 1955 Breakneck HC. A forerunner of our own George Bowland?

Breakneck Hillclimb - 1955 and 1956

Hi Gang! You may (or may not) recognize me as half of "Team Bergsteiger" from the 2007 Polish Mt. Hillclimb. Well, my half did not show up in 2008, but the other half (my brother) did and campaigned the car. I live in Atlanta and I just could not fold time and space this year to make it wo...
