Re: "SCCA-Legal" Roll Bars

Hey Rich, For the benefit of any beginning readers, what did you find in violation? Rollbars are simple but I can see someone messing up: wrong tube thickness/diameter, no crossbar, no seat brace, braces not welded high enough on the main hoop, etc. Good to see you at Duryea last weekend. Ugh! - I h...

Re: Pre-Duryea hillclimb drag race

Sounds like a hoot - very cool idea!

Probably not in the cards for me though, complicates the weekend a little too much for me.

Re: There, but for the grace of God, go I.

Oh thats terrible. Ours is a safe sport, but accidents are a reality in the risk of daily life itself.

Maybe we can get a collection going at Duryea. For 'what' I am unqualified to say, maybe someone has an idea of something appropriate.

Re: The Bad Old Days

when seat belts 1st started to be used in race cars many drivers avoided them, as most thought your chances were better bailing out. Without rollbars or effective helmets - take your pick. Favorite story, not sure if it is a 'fish tale' or not. I heard that Masten Gregory once stood up on the seat a...

Re: HERSHEY "GRAND ASCENT" 2011

I think it will be great getting cars back up the hill at Hershey even if it is a little exclusionary. I fear this is a dying sport and any event added anywhere helps offset the rate of attrition. And once established the trend will be to permit more classes or model years, not less. Heck, I'll bet ...

Re: PHA Test Pilot Contest

I think its a cool idea. We can nitpick over how it is regulated but the jist of it is thus; Take a non-driver up the hill 'at spirited speed' as a passenger and show him/her the course from the business end. Lets face it, our sport is inherently dangerous and hillclimbing in particular has retained...

Re: Rare birds...errr, cars!

Apologies if someone already answered the Audi question but here goes (with no help from the Internet, BTW.)

Wanderer, Horch, DKW and I forget the last one? (It wasn't NSU was it? - I mean there were cars in the 60's still under the NSU brand name.)

Messerschmitt? Panzerkampfwagen?

Rutan Scirocco hillclimbing in Middle East

Not sure if this has been posted before (if it has been - then apologies) but I found this on the NEHA forum a couple weeks ago. Check out the photos from the Rumman Hillclimb in Jordan. Some bloke named Barkev Shadian was driving the Scirocco + placed 5th. talk about getting around - pretty cool st...

Great story Tom - the camaraderie and friendly competition is one of the best things about PHA events and participants.

Given enough PHA Alpha males in attendance - even the Brits aren't talented enough to make a car sufficiently unreliable to keep it out of the running! Booyeah!
