Crap Can Racing: A Team Building Exercise

I have been to several events to hang out. I volunteered once and did a little spectating. I have even contemplated preparing my street cars to do some hill climbs, but I am addicted to endurance road racing especially after doing four 24 Hours of LeMons races. I am now building a 1970 Karmann Ghia ...

Re: 24 Hours of LeMons

I've always wanted to do one of these races. It sounds like fun but not cheap. Even with the $500 limit, I guess it costs a lot more for the cage, wheels and probably brakes. What else ended up costing you $6000? Anything that is not in the budget that you need or care about. For example, either Ch...

Re: 24 Hours of LeMons

I was in four LeMons races in 2009. I have been wanting to get back in. I just bought a pile of Beetle parts to be my LeMons contender. I need to find some Beetle people who know about engine assembly or have parts that I can scrounge. Is there anybody in the hill climb community who fits the bill? ...

Re: Upholstering a race seat?

There is nothing wrong with the seats. I want to make the seats look more like car seats, especially classic seats. The only seats that look that way already have neither shoulder harness guides nor head rests, so those are out. I think that there is one seat that looked okay, but the FIA version is...

Upholstering a race seat?

I have two Sparco Sprint 5 seats that I want to have upholstered. These are FIA homologated. The only stipulation for FIA that I saw in the rules was that the FIA label has to be visible. Will I be able to have the driver's seat upholstered and still meet the requirements? How can I keep the label v...

Re: Hello and running a Miata with only a roll bar?

"Not all fun and games" photography. I know you have been around a while, and are aware that hill climbing is risky, so decide carefully. I will drive on a track with just a roll bar, but not an actual hill climb. The hill climbs have boulders, trees, and steep drops leading to the the ot...

Re: Hello and running a Miata with only a roll bar?

I have the same basic question, but my car has mods: can I run with just a roll bar instead of cage? I have a 2002 Miata with a Hard Dog Hard Core roll bar. I looked at the rules and it sounds like my car might not fit into CSP. It has: revalved Billsteins with coilover sleeves and stiffer springs d...

Re: considering getting a car

Hi Grace, I decided to pray about this whole thing then see where God directs me. This will definitely be a lot of time and money, so I will take my time with it. What your describe about the E350 sounds like what I want. I will be keeping an eye out for one. Camping is an issue for me too. I prefer...

Re: considering getting a car

I have heard things about Spec Pinata... which does include the lack of paint trading in the rear group and that does sound good and apparently true of all W2W. I enjoy driving my Miata a lot, but I have a longing for a vintage vehicle. I am in no rush and I would like to find local, so I will be ke...

considering getting a car

Reason has held me back from getting a dedicated race car, but, lately, reason has been losing out. I prefer wheel to wheel road racing, but I would run at least one hill climb a year. It sounds like SCCA regionals would be the most fun for me. I want an older car as in no later than the 70's. I hav...

miata class and rules

I am planning to do a couple of hill climbs this year and definitely the Jefferson Circuit time trials, however, as is common, I am uncertain under which class my car falls and what rules apply. Car: 2002 Miata with Hard Dog roll bar (SCCA approved) I do not plan on heavily modifying it, at least fo...

Re: E85

is it a result of some no alcohol in the pit rule that i had heard about?
i would like to be able to run e85 in general. do you drive an FFV?
the scca really should sponsor a green race.
